Job Summary JOB DESCRIPTION
Ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electrical transmission system by planning, scheduling and developing switching procedures to support physical work for capital construction and equipment maintenance efforts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Creates detailed switching steps for implementation by Transmission System Coordinators (TSCs) for the safe and reliable shutdown of company transmission facilities using existing policies and procedures.
- Coordinates with Interconnected companies, Stakeholder Relations and Project Management regarding optimal work approach to ensure switching and tagging rules are followed and project objectives are efficiently met.
- Create plans for proper equipment isolation and protective tagging to ensure safe working conditions for all field personnel.
- Creates equipment outage requests planning to implement all switching and tagging required for planned work.
- Develops action plans to protect electrical equipment, property and service with assistance from the Operations Engineering group.
- Maintains and increases personal knowledge of the transmission system and its equipment by participating in tabletop exercises, direct study, seminars, system simulation exercises and field visits.
- Works closely with the Project Management and Field Supervisors groups to coordinate required equipment outages to allow for system changes and upgrades.
- Minimizes equipment shutdowns by developing a long-term equipment outage schedule for periodic maintenance and capital projects.
- Coordinates planned equipment outages that impact generation output with generation operators and independent power producers (IPP).
- Evaluates and provides direction regarding outage sequences and duration.
- Identifies opportunities and implements improvements to the workflow process.
- Assists in the training of lower level Outage Coordinators.
- High school diploma or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience as a Shutdown Coordinator, Transmission System Coordinator or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience writing switching and tagging instructions required.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze complex workflows, to work under minimal supervision, give great attention to detail and to multi-task and organize multiple inter-related tasks and functions.
- Possesses computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Basic understanding of Asset Sentry, Transmission Management System (TMS) and the Transmission Outage Application (TOA) programs.
