Job Summary
PIC Group is seeking an experienced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician for a combined cycle power plant in New Jersey. The O&M Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining plant systems and equipment, including instrumentation, mechanical, electrical, and control systems. This multi-skilled position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of the plant through proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational duties in both field and control environments. A valid New Jersey Black Seal license is required for this role, as the technician will support both operational and boiler-related activities in compliance with state regulations.
Key Project Requirements
• 5+ years of experience in combined cycle power plant operations or maintenance.
• Multi-skilled experience across plant systems, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation support.
• Hands-on experience with GE 7FA combustion turbines and MARK VI control systems is strongly preferred.
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Black Seal license.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Safely operate and maintain plant systems and equipment in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plant equipment including instrumentation, control systems, electrical, and mechanical components.
• Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance to maximize plant availability and reliability.
• Support plant startup and shutdown activities from both the control room and in-field operations.
• Monitor equipment conditions and perform diagnostic testing to identify and resolve performance issues.
• Record operating parameters and data, responding to alarms and upset conditions as necessary.
• Utilize test equipment to evaluate system performance and identify faults in electrical and I&C systems.
• Perform mechanical work on turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, and rotating equipment.
• Maintain compliance with environmental and safety policies and participate actively in the site’s safety program.
Job Requirements
• Ability to work independently in a multi-discipline, team-oriented environment.
• Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and maintenance software systems (e.g., CMMS).
• Understanding of dispatch protocols and power generation performance requirements.
• Valid New Jersey Black Seal license required.
• Demonstrated ability to safely perform electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation troubleshooting and repairs.
• Familiarity with safety practices including LOTO, confined space entry, and PPE usage.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and control system documentation.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
• Ability to work around rotating equipment and pressurized systems.
Education / Experience
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Technical training or certifications in mechanical, electrical, or control systems preferred.
• Hands-on experience with GE 7FA combustion turbines and MARK VI control systems is strongly preferred.
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Black Seal license.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $50-$55.
