Guernsey Power Station (GPS) is a $1.6 Billion, 1,875 MW (net), 3x1x1 GE 7HA.02 combined cycle electric generating facility commissioned in 2023 in Guernsey County, OH. EthosEnergy is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Technician (IC&E) to join the team to install, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation, controls, electrical and computer systems for an 1,875 MW combined cycle power generation facility. This equipment includes but is not limited to gas and steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment such as heat recovery steam generators, air cooled condensers, distributed control systems, continuous emissions monitoring systems, and other support systems. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job Responsibilities
- Reports to the Maintenance Manager, works regularly scheduled weekdays, and is subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime and after hours call out as required.
- Diagnoses and repairs the cause of instrument and control system malfunctions including transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributive control systems (DCS), CEMS, instrument loops, flow, pressure, temperature, and level measuring devices. Repair electrical and control malfunctions on equipment such as transformers, relays, switches, control, generator monitoring and control systems, medium and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
- Performs maintenance and troubleshooting on load commutative inverters, generator circuit breakers, exciters, and battery systems.
- Installs new electrical, instrumentation and control equipment as required.
- Properly uses electrical test equipment and other similar tools.
- Performs the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance.
- Performs maintenance as required using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Writes, submits, documents, and clears corrective, preventative, and predictive work orders for proper close-out in a timely manner. Fully supports the use of CMMS by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy.
- Initiates purchase requests, coordinates with and directs outside contractors as required to ensure completion of position and project responsibilities.
- Performs low, medium, and high voltage electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting up to 765kV to the extent qualified and consistent with established electrical safety practices and supervises outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
- Performs routine generator electrical system tests and inspections to the extent qualified and supervises outside contractors as required.
- Operates and maintains a combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
- Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as pressures, temperatures, fluid levels, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.
- Keeps Lead Operations & Maintenance Technician (LOMT) on shift fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as it relates to facility operations.
- Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range.
- Starts and stops equipment and opens and closes valves and breakers in the facility as directed by and in coordination with the LOMT on shift.
- Visually inspects and maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, and instruments as well as cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
- Performs water chemistry analysis on steam cycle and demineralized make-up water systems to ensure in-line instruments and analyzers are maintained and within proper control ranges, as needed.
- Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
- Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility. Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and work areas, or other duties as assigned.
- Coordinates I&C work with contractors, as necessary.
- Reviews and revises drawings and prints as required.
- Supports the Maintenance Manager in planning and scheduling duties, especially related to maintenance outages and management of the warehouse inventory.
- Performs annual instrument calibrations as part of the electrical and instrumentation team.

- Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation, controls and electrical repairs and troubleshooting within a power generating facility.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of gas and steam turbine maintenance.
- Knowledge of GE 7HA.02 heavy frame, advanced technology gas turbines, GE A650 steam turbines and single shaft arrangements is preferred.
- Demonstrates computer proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrates an understanding of 40CFR Part 60 and Part 75 environmental regulations.
- Demonstrates an understanding of NERC regulations.
- Ability to operate a fork-lift and similar plant equipment.
- Understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
- Above average verbal and written communications skills.
- This position requires ten (10) years of directly related operations or maintenance experience in an electrical generating facility. Combined cycle commissioning, operations and maintenance experience is highly desired.
- Five (5) years of instrumentation, controls and/or electrical experience in an industrial environment with the ability to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge in electrical and instrumentation craft.
- Experience with DCS and PLCs. GE Mark VIe turbine controls is highly desired.
- Experience with CEMS and DAHS systems operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and transformers.
- DCS to I/O to field device troubleshooting experience is required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in industrial electronics, electronic instrumentation, or equivalent engineering studies is preferred.
- Graduation from an Instrumentation, Controls and/or Electrical school is preferred.
- Ability to do walking, reaching, climbing, and stooping and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
- Work shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
- From time to time the working hours will be determined on short notice based on plant requirements.
