The Offshore Substation Thermal Insulation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing thermal insulation systems on offshore substation structures, pipework, HVAC systems, and equipment. Working in a marine environment at height and in confined spaces, the technician ensures that insulation systems provide effective heat retention, condensation control, and weather protection in line with engineering and safety requirements. All work shall be performed in compliance with applicable industry standards, including NORSOK M.
- Install and secure insulation materials on pipework, vessels, ducting, and structural elements within offshore substations.
- Apply protective cladding (aluminium, stainless steel, GRP, or similar) to safeguard insulation from environmental exposure.
- Perform inspections, diagnose insulation defects, and carry out repairs or replacements.
- Interpret engineering drawings, insulation schedules, and work packs.
- Work safely at height, in confined spaces, and on offshore platforms in accordance with GWO and site-specific safety procedures.
- Prepare surfaces for insulation, ensuring corrosion protection coatings are intact before application.
- Maintain accurate work records, including completion certificates and photographic documentation.
- Coordinate with other trades and disciplines to meet project deadlines.
- Adhere to environmental and waste disposal protocols for insulation materials.
- Recognised insulation trade qualification (TICA, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Full GWO Certificate Pack (Working at Height, Sea Survival, First Aid, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling)., and familiarity with NORSOK standards (NORSOK M-004)

- Confined Space Entry certification
- Previous offshore substation or offshore wind experience essential.
- Strong knowledge of thermal insulation materials and techniques for offshore environments.
- Competent in fitting cladding systems for weatherproofing.
- Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary offshore teams.
- Excellent safety awareness and hazard recognition.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physically fit and comfortable working at height and in exposed offshore conditions.
- Offshore rotational pattern (e.g., 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off).
- 12-hour shifts in variable weather conditions.
- PPE and specialist tools provided.
