Overview:
The Substation Engineer position entails a vital role in substation design and engineering for utility and renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, design, and analysis of high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) substations. This includes physical and electrical design, protection and control schematics, and adherence to industry standards. The engineer will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure that substation projects are delivered with technical excellence and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
•Serve as the Substation Engineer on projects involving HV and EHV substation designs for utility clients.
•Design and develop substation layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding systems, cable routing, and conduit plans.
•Prepare protection and control schematics, as well as wiring diagrams.
•Perform calculations for grounding, lightning protection, and bus ampacity.
•Prepare and review engineering documentation, technical specifications, and construction drawings.
•Ensure compliance with Electrical Codes (e.g., NESC, NEC), utility standards, and industry best practices.
•Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to integrate substation designs with broader project requirements.
•Assist in developing project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
•Support construction, procurement, and commissioning teams with technical guidance during all phases of the project.
•Maintain client relations and support business development activities as required.
Requirements:
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
•Proven experience in substation design and engineering for utility-scale projects.
•Proficiency in substation design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and preferably tools like ETAP or SKM.
•Strong understanding of substation protection and control systems.
•Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC, and utility guidelines.
•Excellent problem-solving and technical writing skills.
•Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
•Experience with U.S. market substation design is required.
•Attention to detail and a strong commitment to high-quality deliverables.
