The Opportunity
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Drill & Blast General Supervisor at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5X2, Monday to Friday, Day shift.

Drill & Blast General Supervisor
Location
Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Drill & Blast General Supervisor leads to the execution and optimization of all drilling, blasting, and utility tasks on site. This role will provide guidance and oversight of relevant activities on site to ensure mine operations are conducted in a safe manner that maximizes productivity and utilization of resources.
Responsibilities•Demonstrates a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with CMM’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs and the BC Mines Act,
•Develop an engaged, motivated, and effective operating team through leadership, dialogue, and coaching,
•Ensure that all direct employees are competent and perform their job functions safely and efficiently,
•Ensures quality Safety Meetings, Flash Reports, SLAMs, and Accident/Incident reports are completed in a timely fashion,
•Completes performance evaluations on direct reports and provide regular feedback,
•Promotes consistency between shifts in all aspects of the department (safety, housekeeping, training, and workforce utilization),
•Develops and maintains adequate training programs for drilling, blasting, and utility related work,
•Ensure the quality of daily tasks surrounding pattern preparation, cable work, and explosives loading efficiency,
•Ensures adequate planning and coordination from various teams on site with regards to efficient cable layouts, optimized substation placement, and compliance with best practices and engineering requirements,
•Regular review and audit of relevant critical control verification programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness,
•Support, develop, and lead operational efficiency improvement projects within the Drill & Blast department,
•Constant evaluation of resourcing models to ensure production targets are successfully achieved,
•Monitor and present KPI information with demonstrated knowledge of ongoing activities,
•Manage external contractors and stakeholders and ensure alignment on operational requirements,
•Continuous improvement projects as related to the areas of responsibility,
•Performs other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the department head.
Education & Experience
•Current BC Shiftboss Certification with required first aid,
•Current BC Surface Blaster Certification or the ability to obtain,
•Minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory role,
•Degree in Mine Engineering, or a related discipline, would be considered an asset,
•Proficient user of computer-based training, investigation tools (Intelex), and procurement programs (SAP),
•Proficient user of computer systems including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite,
•Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
Required Skills
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills,
•Competent in effectively managing workforce conflicts, incidents, investigations, and related corrective follow up actions,
•Must work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and possess a strong work ethic,
•Proven management and team-building capabilities and the foresight to recognize and overcome any potential challenges while effectively leading supervisors, operators, and independent contractors,
•Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners, and internal customers ,
•Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements .
Working Conditions
•Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in all weather conditions,
•Work includes lifting or moving up to 50lbs,
•Team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings.
Salary Range
$130,000.00 - $159,000.00 / Annum
