We are specifically looking for a student with a background in Mining or Geotechnical engineering. The successful candidate must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds. This student will be responsible for mine assignments and projects as assigned by the Principal Mine Engineer. They may be assigned duties and/or projects related to drilling and blasting, short range mine planning and construction projects.

If you are not currently located in the area of this internship, you must be willing to relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the internship.  You must also currently be a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the internship (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the internship is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Red Dog Operations

is one of the world's largest zinc mines, located about 170 kilometers (105 miles) north of the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska, near Kotzebue. Red Dog is an open-pit truck-and-loader operation, using conventional drill and blast mining methods. Concentrates produced at Red Dog are shipped to our metallurgical facilities in Trail, British Columbia, and to customers in Asia and Europe. The current mine life, based on existing developed deposits, is expected to extend through to 2031.

This position operates on a four-weeks on, two-weeks off, fly-in, fly-out rotation, providing an excellent work-life balance. Transportation to and from the mine site will be covered. The mine site is a camp environment and all food and lodging is provided. On-site living accommodations also have many amenities to make life at the mine very comfortable. These include a gymnasium, indoor track, weightlifting rooms, a library/media room, craft and music rooms, and a cafeteria where you are served three home-cooked meals a day.
