Position Summary
A metallurgical lab technician plays a crucial role in examining and testing metal samples to determine their physical properties. The technician will be responsible for all heat treatment of the parts as deemed necessary, and as per specifications called for by PROENERGY standards and/or the engineering team.
Position Responsibilities
•Prepare specimens by cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching metal samples.
•Ensure that the samples are ready for further analysis.
•Examine the sample by using optical microscopy equipment.
•Measure properties such as hardness, strength, flexibility, and other relevant characteristics.
•Apply and understand customer and industry specification and requirements.
•Follow guidelines to ensure accurate and consistent results.
•Interpret data and collaborate with other technicians to maintain the quality result.
•Ensure the reliability of materials used in various applications.
•All other duties as called for by management.
Required Qualifications
•Must read, write and speak fluent English.
•US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
•Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Desired Qualifications
•2 plus years in a Quality Work Environment
•2 plus years of directly related work experience in a repair overhaul facility
•Knowledge of the Metallurgical Lab practices
•Experience in the following Tools / Practices:
+ Cut-off saw
+ Hot Mounting press
+ Castable vacuum system – vacuum impregnation system
+ Lab Oven – setting up epoxy mounts
+ Polisher – Automatic polishing system
+ Protective Lab Hood – For use in etching samples to vent fumes
+ Micro-hardness tester with digital analysis system for evaluation
+ Microscope with digital camera and imaging software system for photomicrographs and evaluations
+ Imaging Analysis software
+ Tensile Tester for tensile and bond strength testing
+ SEM and EDM for analysis of microstructures
+ Stress Rupture Testing equipment
+ Various other equipment for analysis of materials and coatings
