Ayrton Energy’s mission is to propel the global shift towards sustainable energy with the broad deployment of our cutting-edge hydrogen storage technology, reshaping hydrogen distribution to mirror the safety, simplicity, and efficiency of traditional fuels such as diesel or gasoline. As a part of this, Ayrton is looking to hire a dynamic Mechanical Engineer to help develop our technology into a commercial product.

- Design process piping and fluid systems for electrochemical technologies
- Specify and source mechanical and fluidic components for system integration
- Design mechanical compression hardware and seals for electrochemical stacks
- Design integrated fluid and valve manifolds to optimize flow control and minimize system complexity
- Design protective enclosures to maintain environmental protection and ventilation of process areas, including specifying ventilation flow requirements
- Support system controls development through pressure drop, flow rate, and thermal calculations
- Lead and contribute to DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) for components and systems
- Ensure designs meet necessary codes and standards
- Conduct HazOp (Hazard and Operability) studies to ensure safe and reliable system operation
- Generate design documentation including component and assembly drawings, P&IDs, to enable successful design review and fabrication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and R&D to support product development and continuous improvement
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and protection of intellectual property (IP)
- Partner with the leadership team to define project objectives, deliverables, budgets, and timelines
- Minimum undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
or related field
- Minimum of 5
years proven experience in designing chemical or electrochemical process equipment and systems
- Professional engineering designation is an asset, but not explicitly required.
- Proven experience translating prototype designs into commercially viable products
- Familiarity with fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies including regulatory standards and compliance requirements
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a talent for simplifying complex challenges into actionable solutions
- Project management experience is an asset, especially in coordinating cross-functional teams, managing timelines, and achieving technical milestones
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to work on-site at Ayrton Energy’s facility in Calgary
