Job Summary
The Materials Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the materials management process within our organization. This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient procurement, inventory control, and logistics of materials necessary for production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supply chain management and experience with ERP systems, particularly Dynamics 365. The Materials Supervisor will lead a team to optimize production planning and maintain supplier relationships while adhering to lean manufacturing principles.
- Oversee procurement activities to ensure the timely acquisition of materials needed for manufacturing operations.
- Manage inventory control processes to maintain optimal stock levels and reduce waste.
- Utilize MRP and ERP systems to facilitate effective demand planning and production scheduling.
- Implement lean manufacturing practices to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Coordinate logistics and warehouse activities to ensure smooth material flow throughout the supply chain.
- Monitor supplier performance and conduct regular assessments to enhance supplier management strategies.
- Verifies incoming material meets quality requirements and coordinates with Quality for non-conformance resolution.
- Ensures department compliance with customer-specific requirements, lockout/tagout, PPE use, and plant safety rules.
- Maintains accurate inventory counts and participates in cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
- Lead a team of materials personnel, providing training and support to foster professional development.
- Analyze inventory data to identify trends, forecast needs, and make informed decisions regarding purchasing.
- Manages documentation and labeling compliance for automotive customers.
- Directly supervises 2+ full-time employees (or equivalent), assigning work, approving schedules, and monitoring performance.- Participates in hiring decisions and conducts performance reviews with recommendations for promotion, discipline, or termination.
- Ensure team members are trained in safety procedures, job-specific work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Implements daily 5S and Lean improvements within materials handling areas.
- Identifies opportunities to reduce premium freight, minimize scrap, and improve material flow efficiency.
- Provides feedback to the Manager on supplier performance and internal bottlenecks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
- Proficiency in Dynamics 365; familiarity with other ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and practices, including demand planning and logistics.
- Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for accurate reporting and decision-making.
