Brief Description
The
Material Handling Supervisoroversees the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of bulk material handling systems (coal, limestone, ash, solid waste, etc.) to support station reliability. This role leads craftworkers, ensures work is completed to high safety, quality, and productivity standards, and aligns with customer and plant requirements. The supervisor provides leadership, training, and performance management to direct reports while coordinating with other departments to meet operational goals.
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant.
Key Responsibilities Material Handling Operations (30%)
- Direct the transfer and storage of bulk materials in a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant manner.
- Ensure raw material availability to meet station reliability and System Control load requirements. Deliverable: Reliable, compliant station operations.
- Monitor work in progress to ensure safety, environmental compliance, quality, and productivity standards are met.
- Verify completed work meets documentation and housekeeping standards, initiating corrective actions as needed. Deliverable: Safe, high-quality work with clean work areas.
- Identify maintenance needs via Work Request procedures and coordinate with the Maintenance department.
- Utilize Daily and Long Range Scheduling meetings to prioritize and direct work, ensuring customer needs are met.
- Respond to emergencies, share after-hours call duties, and expedite resource allocation as needed. Deliverable: Timely, high-quality work meeting customer and station standards.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and annual appraisals to direct reports.
- Ensure craftworkers receive training to enhance job performance and maintain a productive, safe work environment.
- Conduct weekly safety and information meetings to keep staff informed. Deliverable: Well-trained, motivated craftworkers performing safely and effectively.
- Administer plant safety procedures, including Clearance Permit System, Confined Spaces, and Cutting/Welding Permits.
- Ensure personnel maintain proficiency in safety protocols. Deliverable: Zero accidents or equipment damage during operations.
- Operations Group Supervisors: Meet or exceed operational requirements.
- Department Personnel: Provide guidance to align personal goals with strategic objectives.
- Other Station Departments: Foster collaboration to support plant-wide goals.
- Education: Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of technical experience or equivalent academic training.

Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
