Reporting to the Materials Superintendent, the Materials Supervisor is responsible for the shipping and receiving activity throughout the facility through the following activities:
- Supervises warehouse personnel and coordinates activities of stockroom, receiving, shipping, and delivery of materials throughout the MPA campus.
- Schedules all manpower requirements for shipping, receiving.
- Develops procedures and trains employees on procedures and proper material handling.
- Oversees the loading of trucks, setting up delivery routes, and unloading of material.
- Supervising of Materials employees by providing coaching, guidance, feedback and discipline in accordance to company policy.
- Maintains communications with carriers, suppliers, warehouses, custom brokers and others involved in the shipping and delivery of merchandise.
- Ensures that goods are shipped and delivered in a timely manner and that inventory levels are sufficiently maintained.
- Studies company’s or customers’ needs and manages and maintains inventory based on those needs.
- Oversees the transportation of products from one location to another, such as from loading docks to warehouses or warehouses to stores (point of use).
- Arranges product pickups and deliveries with transportation companies and route drivers.
- Contacts various transportation companies to get shipping quotes; and conducts a cost analysis of several transportation companies to assist upper management in selecting those that are cost-efficient, reliable, and able to handle the shipment loads.
- Communicates with trucking companies, warehouse supervisors, customs brokers, sales forces and customers, ensuring that all parties are working together to guarantee that shipments are packed, sent, and delivered in a timely manner.
- Provides input for departmental budget and manages budgeted expenditures.
- Supports and promotes Plant and Departmental Key Performance Indicators by monitoring, taking appropriate action, establishing plans and completing tasks to meet established targets.
- Lead/coach/mentor team members on cultural change, new processing, continuous improvement as a part of daily life.
- On a daily basis, develop and distribute: The demand plan, shipping schedule and metal forecast.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in manufacturing logistics. Two years of directly related experience may substitute for 1 year of a bachelor’s degree - Essential
One year minimum of supervisory responsibility - Essential
Automotive manufacturing experience a plus - Preferred
- Must be able to work extended hours including weekends in order to objective accomplishment
- Must be people oriented with the ability to influence and persuade, coach and train personnel
- Must have a good understanding of supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary actions including investigation and documentation
- Must have solid time and priority management skills for managing both self and team activities
- Must be accountable for departmental budget and cost control
- Must be reliable, be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be quality oriented with emphasis on operating to “standard”
- Must be a good communicator, both oral or written
- Must be comfortable using data for problem identification, resolution and decision making

- Must be safety oriented
- Must have Microsoft office skills; ERP and/or Plex skills a plus
