Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for integrating best manufacturing practices into both the development and production processes of the company. This role involves professional engineering work on the shop floor and in the office, including product development, transition to production, and full production support. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with design engineering, procurement, and manufacturing teams to ensure the timely completion of product manufacturing, providing technical and administrative support as needed.
Job Duties:
•Plan manufacturing processes, including machine selection and sequencing of operations.
•Select appropriate machines for part processing, considering both in-house and supplier capabilities.
•Identify and plan for any new processes or equipment needed, deciding whether to source from suppliers or procure new machinery.
•Detail and organize in-house and supplier activities.
•Plan raw material requirements for projects.
•List and plan tools and fixtures required, verifying the availability and quality of existing tools.
•Design new tools and fixtures, collaborating with the engineering team as necessary.
•Plan and conduct trials once all tools, fixtures, sub-components, and parts are received.
•Coordinate with production for trial plans and resource requirements (materials, machines, manpower).
•Execute and prove processes through trials, including those at supplier sites if needed.
•Ensure manufacturing equipment readiness for production.
•Oversee periodic and preventive maintenance of production equipment.
•Review and interpret engineering drawings, performance specifications, and supplier component specifications.
•Establish fabrication sequences, processes, and develop required tooling for product manufacturing.
•Extract and develop manufacturing concepts and methods from drawings and engineering data.
•Provide shop floor support, facilitating producibility, and continuous process and product improvement.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities:
•Provide complex input during concurrent engineering design activities to ensure fabricability at the production phase.
•Identify critical processes for trend analysis to improve manufacturing processes and capabilities.
•Review and analyze company processes affecting assigned programs, establishing metrics for monitoring target costs and process rates for increased cost savings and cost avoidance.
•Apply project management principles and techniques to assigned manufacturing integration tasks.
•Work on reducing throughput time of processes.
•Conduct rejection and rework analysis, collaborating with the quality and manufacturing teams.
•Identify and implement improvements in current processes, machines, and equipment.
•Analyze and solve tool life problems.
•Focus on yield loss reduction.
•Plan material handling facilities.
•Engage in process automation activities.
•Plan plant layouts for efficient production flow.
Job Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, plus five years of related experience, or a master’s degree and three years of related experience.
•Experience in fabrication or design engineering in a welding-focused production environment is preferred.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Teams).
•Intermediate understanding of one or more engineering CAD software programs.
•Experience in planning and executing production through ERP software is desired.
•Thorough knowledge of Design for Manufacture, Design for Cost, or other related design and producibility disciplines.
•Familiarity with work measurement, standards, statistical process controls, and performance indicators.
•Excellent problem-solving skills, capable of working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement personnel.
•Strong interpersonal skills, able to work successfully within a team, prioritize work, complete multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
