This is a full time, exempt position with a 4-day work week!
The primary role of the Manufacturing Engineer is to create accurate, competitive cost estimates for precision metal fabrication jobs. This position plays a key role in winning new business and ensuring profitable, high-quality manufacturing projects. This position partners with sales, engineering, and production teams and is ideal for someone who thrives on problem-solving, has deep technical knowledge, and enjoys turning complex requirements into efficient, profitable manufacturing plans.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for complex manufacturing jobs, including consumables, machine hours, and labor.
- Review and interpret customer blueprints, specifications, and RFQs.
- Use historical data, vendor quotes, and production input to develop accurate pricing.
- Source and obtain quotes for specialized outside services when needed.
- Prepare and issue job packets promptly upon order award.
- Willing to travel to Customers and Outside Service Vendors (2-3x per year)
- Plan and design fixtures as appropriate to support manufacturing processes.·
- Partner with sales account managers to develop winning proposals.
- Engage with customers to negotiate deviations or exceptions when needed.
- Translate requirements clearly from sales to production teams.
- Analyze completed jobs against original estimates to identify variances.
- Capture lessons learned and update best practices in the company knowledge base.
- Recommend improvements to the estimating process to enhance profitability and efficiency.
- 3–5 years of experience in the precision metal parts fabrication industry.
- 1–2 years of experience in cost estimation or sales quoting.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
- Proficient in the interpretation of GD&T requirements.
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes (e.g., stamping, laser cutting, CNC milling, EDM, heat treating).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project).
- Excellent math, data analysis, communication, and organizational skills.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of Employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Familiarity with ISO9001 (AS9100D preferred).
- Experience with JobBOSS ERP.
- CAD skills (Autodesk, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or other technical field.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs.
- Comfortable using standard office equipment.
