Position

SEPA is seeking a strategic and creative Manager, Social Media & Digital Engagement to lead SEPA’s shared and paid media strategies, amplifying the organization’s thought leadership, increasing member engagement, and driving brand visibility in alignment with SEPA’s strategic priorities. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with strong creative instincts, deep social media expertise, and a data-informed mindset. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and continually optimizes and innovates how we present ourselves across platforms.

This position reports to the Senior Director, External Communications and works closely with the Director, Marketing Strategy & Engagement.

Responsibilities

Shared and Paid Digital Strategy and Execution

- Refresh and manage SEPA’s shared and paid digital media strategies, aligned with the organization’s strategy and departmental goals.

- Own and execute the day-to-day management of all organizational social media platforms (including but not limited to X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube). Identify opportunities to consistently engage with SEPA members and partners.

- Translate SEPA’s research, thought leadership, and event offerings into digestible, engaging, and shareable content that highlights impact and relevance.

- In partnership with the Manager, Executive Communications and Thought Leadership and Senior Director, External Communications, support the CEO’s positioning as a thought leader by ghostwriting content for LinkedIn.

- Develop and manage an editorial calendar aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, and events.

- Monitor trends, news, and conversations in clean energy and climate advocacy to inform content strategy and real-time engagement.

- Partner with communications and marketing team members to develop and execute targeted paid campaigns for lead generation, event attendance, and brand awareness.

- Recommend and test new ad formats, A/B variations, and budget allocations based on campaign goals and analytics insights.

- Manage all inbound comments and messages stemming from paid social marketing initiatives.

- Conduct thorough audience research to identify and target key demographics for maximum impact.

- Track and report on ROI of paid efforts and make ongoing recommendations for budget allocation and strategy refinement.

Content Development and Audience Engagement

- Collaborate with the research and events teams to develop messaging frameworks and evergreen campaigns that spotlight SEPA’s resources and events. Develop and maintain a forward-looking editorial calendar that aligns with major events, policy cycles, product launches, and industry milestones.

- Lead social media coverage during major convenings, including live posting, rapid content capture, and real-time engagement.

- Develop compelling content for CEO’s LinkedIn.

- Create, curate, and adapt compelling multimedia content (text, images, video, etc.) that informs, inspires, and activates target audiences.

- Work with graphic designer on new graphics and templates.

Data & Analytics

- Set and monitor measurable KPIs related to awareness, engagement, and growth of SEPA’s online community (followers, reach, engagement rate, click-throughs).

- Use platform analytics, social listening tools, and industry benchmarks to continuously optimize campaigns and inform content decisions.

- Lead social listening efforts to monitor conversations around SEPA, its members, and the clean energy sector, and flag reputational risks or opportunities to leadership.

- Generate actionable monthly and quarterly reports for internal stakeholders and use findings to inform content and campaign adjustments.

- Leverage A/B testing and platform-specific tools to experiment and innovate.

- Lead community management efforts: respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and thoughtful manner. Identify opportunities to foster dialogue and build relationships with influencers, partners, and media.

Collaboration and Integration

- Collaborate with SEPA member organizations’ communications teams to identify storytelling opportunities, highlight member achievements, and co-develop content that showcases industry progress and strengthens SEPA’s role as convener.

- Work across the communications and marketing team to ensure consistent messaging across digital channels.

- Work with Membership and Research and Industry Strategy teams to ensure an inclusive representation and relevance of content across SEPA’s diverse membership.

- Collaborate with the Public Utilities Fortnightly team to ideate, generate, and amplify content across platforms.

- Serve as an internal resource for social media best practices, supporting staff and executives with training, tool guidance, and amplification strategies.

- 5+ years of progressive experience in B2B or advocacy social media management, preferably in the energy, nonprofit, association, or policy space.

- Exceptional written and visual communication skills.

- Expertise with social media analytics tools (e.g., Sprout, Hootsuite, or native platforms) and experience tying metrics to strategic goals.

- Demonstrated ability to create content that resonates with technical and non-technical audiences and drives measurable impact.

- Ability to interpret complex energy topics and translate them into compelling digital stories and visuals.

- Knowledge of clean energy trends, industry events, and stakeholder audiences preferred.

- Experience supporting high-level executive communications.

- Experience in graphic design and/or video editing, using tools such as Canva and the Adobe suite.

- Proven track record of growing and engaging online audiences through organic and paid efforts.

- Deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, and emerging tools.

- Experience using social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Later, Buffer, Meta Ads Manager, Google Analytics).

- Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.

- Passion for clean energy is a plus.

# Attributes
