Manager, Project Management – Special Projects Location: 241 Ralph McGill Blvd., Atlanta GA – GPC Corporate Office.
Job Summary
This position provides leadership and direction for the GPC Transmission Project Management Organization (PMO), overseeing the statewide Special Projects team that manages large, complex multi-year projects including new 500kV projects, Transmission Grid, Generator Interconnection, Physical Security, Fiber, Department of Transportation (DOT) relocations and Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Work Authorization Request (WAR) project management teams. This role also supports and oversees all PMO related filings and responses to the Georgia Public Service Commission for IRP and Rate Case proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Transmission Grid Investment
- Provide leadership and support for project managers overseeing the execution of Transmission Grid Investment Plan projects that focus on replacing aging substation and transmission line assets across the system.
- Ensures that yearly project target counts and budget targets are met, as communicated internally and to the Georgia Public Service Commission.
- Collaborate closely with project originators and GPC Capital Governance and Support teams to ensure that the Transmission Grid portfolio is executed and adjusted as needed to meet business requirements.
- Communicate regular updates on the status of the program with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support Grid-related data requests from the Georgia Public Service Commission.
- Generator Interconnections
- Provide leadership and oversight for high-profile and accelerated-pace generator interconnection projects (traditional, solar, battery, etc.) that are subject to increased regulatory scrutiny.
- Ensure adherence to aggressive timelines and budgets for internal and developer owned generations assets.
- Serve as a liaison between partner organizations, including GPC Interconnections and Policy, SCS Transmission Services, and SCS Transmission Planning regarding interconnection projects.
- DOT Relocations
- Provide leadership and oversight for DOT relocation projects that are subject to negotiation and scrutiny by the Geogia DOT for reimbursement and execution.
- Ensure close collaboration with Land Engineering and others to review proposed DOT plans for conflict resolution.
- Ensure adherence to aggressive timelines and budgets.
- Physical Security, Fiber, and ITS WARS
- Provide leadership and support for project managers to ensure timely execution and reporting of all physical security, fiber, and ITS WARs projects.
- Communicate project updates and forecasts as needed, both internally and with other ITS participants.
- Serve on ITS Project Management Working Group (PMWG) committee.
- Capital Budget Management
- Support the development and management of the transmission capital budget.
- Ensure all Grid, Interconnection, DOT, Physical Security, Fiber, and ITS WARS project documentation is promptly routed with the appropriate TPRT and T&D approvals.
- Ensure that monthly budget projections are submitted accurately and on time.
- Support the Capital Portfolio Manager and PMO Project Controls team in all budget rebuilding exercises throughout the year.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or related field.
- Advanced degree and/or PE/PMP certification is a plus.
- Experience and Knowledge
- Demonstrated Safety focus.
- Demonstrated leadership with managerial and/or supervisory experience, including performance management responsibilities.
- At least 5 years of combined experience in the following areas is preferred:
- Transmission Planning, Transmission Design/Engineering, Transmission Construction, Transmission Maintenance, Transmission Operations, and/or Transmission Project Management.
- Proven experience in successfully managing internal and external relationships.
- Knowledgeable in current and emerging project management practices, with the ability to implement those practices to enhance the PMO’s effectiveness in meeting business objectives.
