American Water is currently seeking a Procurement Manager to work in our Camden NJ location. This role will encompass both senior buyer and management responsibilities. In this role you will manage people directly and serve as senior subject matter expert to deliver on stakeholder outcomes and change management.
The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education, and/or experience. The supply chain manager is the local business partner and a key point of contact for a region or states or for the service company functions. The role encompasses both senior buyer responsibilities and management responsibilities. The role is responsible for managing people directly, managing an indirect cross functional team and serving as a senior subject matter expert to deliver on stakeholder outcomes and change management.
- Manage people and stakeholders, with emphasis on delivering on state, enterprise and strategic project objectives and change management (30%)
- Serve as a key support to the Senior Manager by providing backup coverage and assuming regional responsibilities in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational effectiveness
- Drive consistencies in compliance and execution across the division and align with corporate policy and practices
- Prepare, assist and develop contracts, bid packages, statement of work documents, and requests (RFP/RFI) according to specifications and business requirements, especially pertaining to Construction, Engineering and Service oriented projects.(50%)
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies from project identification through close-out including alternative sourcing options
- Build and maintain Supplier/Contractor relationships with the objective of reducing total costs, increasing productivity, and eliminating inefficiencies in the supply chain
- Support Company risk management objectives in areas such as safety, insurance requirements, and supplier depth
- Support supplier diversity and sustainability strategies
- Provide 24/7 emergency response and manage procurement activities to support operational continuity and urgent business needs
- American Water’s procurement organization; benchmark American Water against established external best practice procurement criteria (10%)
- Ensure process owners share leading practices and establish consistent methodologies that are aligned with corporate and subsidiary strategic objectives; design, recommend and implement professional training and development programs aimed at elevating the techniques and managerial skills of the procurement operations professionals
- Develop, recommend and implement programs to enhance working relationships and communication processes among Procurement Champions, Regional Procurement Managers, Subject Matter Experts and category teams to ensure achievement of leading practice procurement objectives
- Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business (10%)
- Procurement knowledge sufficient to deliver expected benefits for American Water
- Knowledge of/experience in procurement environment for categories managed
- Knowledge sufficient to analyze business procurement issues, recommend solutions and implement changes
- Knowledge of vendor environment and sourcing strategies and techniques
- Excellent knowledge and experience with software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) including presentation and database applications
- Bachelor's Degree (masters degree preferred)
- 5 years managerial experience (preferred)
- 7 to 10 years procurement experience
- 3 to 5 years utilities/water industry experience
Up to 30% within managed region and to headquarters
