ODM is a geological consulting company with a world-renowned, heavy mineral processing laboratory. Since 1974, ODM has been at the leading edge of using indicator minerals to explore for many mineral deposit types in Canada and throughout the world.
ODM’s vision for our Automated Mineralogy capabilities will: (a) continue to include direct mineral exploration applications to enhance our optical mineralogy services; (b) expand our collaboration with domestic (Canadian) and international government, academic and industry research organizations and developers; and (c) develop new multi-disciplinary applications for the technology.
The successful candidate will work in ODM’s dynamic laboratory. Duties will include, in part: (a) continuing the development of our automated mineralogy capabilities; (b) install, calibrate and maintain new and existing equipment; (c) establish and customize workflows; (d) research multi-disciplinary applications; (e) work closely with the lab manager to establish protocols for applicable sample processing; and (f) attend selected conferences, workshops and short courses to promote and enhance ODM’s services. Secondary duties may include: (a) indicator mineralogy; (b) routine SEM/EDS mineral identifications; and (c) field work.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:
· 3-5 years SEM/EDS and automated mineralogy experience.
· Demonstrated experience operating automated mineralogy systems and interpretation of analyses.
· Strong knowledge of: (a) mineralogy; (b) geological concepts; (c) ore deposit models including gold, base metals, diamonds.
· Self-motivating with the ability to assess and problem-solve independently.
· Capable of using a microscope for extended periods.
Term: Two-year contract with potential transition to permanent employment
