The Manager of Applied Innovation plays a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovations that enhance PJM's operations, markets, and transmission planning. This includes cutting-edge software, AI-driven solutions, grid-enhancing technologies, and methodologies to drive the success of the PJM interconnection. This role fosters collaboration across teams and external stakeholders to support PJM's innovation strategy. Essential Functions: Stay Ahead of the Curve: Maintain a deep understanding of the latest advancements in AI, electric utility technologies, and innovations across industries, with a focus on those applicable to PJM’s operations, markets, and transmission planning. Lead Technology Exploration: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to explore and assess the impact of emerging technologies, addressing both challenges and opportunities that arise. Conduct Strategic Studies: Lead analytical and large-scale simulation studies to inform PJM’s strategy. Drive Innovation: Lead and promote advanced technology pilot projects, including AI-driven initiatives, encourage participation across the industry, and push for innovative solutions that address grid challenges. Foster a Culture of Innovation: Inspire and drive innovation at all levels of PJM, ensuring the integration of new technologies and methodologies across departments and divisions. Continuous Learning & Development: Work with PJM departments to implement ongoing education programs about current and future technology trends that align with PJM’s needs and strategy. Showcase Success: Publish, present, and communicate successful applications of innovation both within PJM and the broader industry.
