Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, will be responsible for diagnosing and correcting mechanical problems, repair and maintenance of sewer lift stations, plant equipment, vehicles, buildings, and various other Utility equipment, as well as grounds maintenance.
1. Diagnose and correct mechanical problems. Test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions. Perform preventative maintenance service and repairs of vehicles and equipment. Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid, oil changes, filter changes, replacing batteries, replacing coolant, wiper blades, alternators, troubleshooting, and other general maintenance operations to vehicles, bush hogs, lawn mowers, backhoes, and other equipment.
2. Diagnose and repair pumps. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs which may include, but not limited to: pulling and cleaning pumps of debris, rotate assemblies, bearings, belts, seals, motors, transducers, floats, oil changes, replacing sensors, control panels, cleaning wet wells, VFDs, wear rings, impellors, and other general maintenance operations.
3. Diagnose and repair generators and treatment plant equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs of generators, and treatment plant equipment, which may include but not limited to: clarifier motors & components, gear boxes, rotors, control panels, belts, and other general maintenance operations.
4. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical which may include, but not limited to: inspection of electrical cabinets, installing outlets, replacing bulbs, ballasts, breakers, wiring, and other general maintenance operations.
5. Perform general preventive maintenance and repairs which may include, but not limited to: general building maintenance, troubleshooting, running phone/computer lines, mowing and weedeating, and other general maintenance operations.
6. Monitor pump stations including but not limited to: check and maintain motor runs, wet well levels, flow, amps, respond to alarms, etc. Monitoring will include some nights and weekends.
7. Accept “on call” status during off duty hours for checking pump stations on weekends or holidays and treatment plant, if required.
8. Follow safety guidelines, including but not limited to, lock out- tag out, confined space entry, and all safety guidelines per J.W.U. Safety Manual and all equipment safety procedures.
9. Perform duties for all Utility Departments as required.
10. Prepare project cards and other related records.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ability to obtain Class I Wastewater Operator’s License within one year of employment.
Ability to obtain an Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License, should supervisor require.
Ability to read blueprints and wiring schemantics, understand repair manuals, and perform work from verbal and/or written instructions.
Strong knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Strong knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the techniques, blueprints and wiring schemantics, drawings, and models.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Hands-on experience and/or maintenance or electrical certifications, and basic knowledge of electrical control panels.
Ability to communicate in a positive manner with the public and coworkers.
Ability to drive automobiles, dump trucks, and heavy equipment safely, using good judgment in their operation.
Outside working environment, wherein there are disagreeable working conditions to include heat, cold, rain, and other extreme weather. Will be in contact with raw sewage and water. Will be required to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, work from ramps and walkways, and drive vehicles.
Highly Repetitive •Highly Physical: Highly repetitive type work which requires the concentrated and non-diversified physical demands of the employee. Lift heavy equipment such as manhole rings and covers, heavy tools, pump rotates, and other objects weighing approximately 100 lbs.
