The Maintenance Planner and Supervisor is responsible for the effective planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance activities to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of equipment and facilities. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on supervision, coordinating resources and leading a maintenance team to achieve operational goals efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Scheduling
•Develop, implement, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
•Create detailed work plans, including job scope, required resources (materials, tools, labor), and timelines.
•Coordinate with production and operations teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
•Maintain accurate records of work orders, equipment history, and maintenance logs.
•Accountable for creating work orders, entering time, coding, work notes, and issuing parts to work orders in JDE.
•Collaborate with purchasing, vendors, and suppliers to ensure timely procurement of parts and materials.
•Maintain key performance indicators (KPI’s) including meantime between failures (MTBF), meantime to repair (MTTR), overtime, etc.
•Ensure all work is captured in JDE.
•Plans, schedules, and coordinates corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
•Stages parts and other preparation for maintenance jobs.
•Develops and maintains a work plan and schedule.
•Ensures that JDE software data files are complete and current.
•Assists with inventory and purchasing functions.
•Reviews daily Stores Issues Report to confirm accuracy.
•Conducts monthly inventory cycle counts.
•Receives incoming shipments and invoices.
•Performs purchasing to support efficient plant operations.
•Utilizes JD Edwards to enter purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
•Guarantee spare parts are available when needed by ensuring all parts removed from the warehouse are issued to work orders and all inventory control policies and procedures are strictly followed by all maintenance personnel.
•Maintains and advises on the use and disposition of stock items, surplus items, and rental equipment.
Supervision and Leadership
•Adhere to and drive US Silica Core Values and Operating System pillars within the maintenance department.
•Supervise and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, providing direction and support.
•Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
•Conduct team meetings to review goals, provide updates, and address challenges.
•Manage contractors and third-party service providers when required.
•Reviews PM’s, schedule compliance, and KPI’s with maintenance crew to keep them aware of performance, successes, and challenges.
•Manage the repair and maintenance budget.
•Capital Project development and execution.
•Hold team members accountable to proper work management practices in accordance with company standards and policies. Includes proper and consistent use of the work order process, maintenance inventory usage, workplace exams, and preventive maintenance inspections.
•Engage the maintenance crew in continuous improvement and root-cause analysis activities to continue to improve process reliability and availability.
•Identify opportunities to reduce risk through continuous improvement activities.
•Ensures maintenance crew has the tools, equipment, supplies, and resources they need to perform and complete assigned work in a safe, environmentally responsible & efficient manner.
Maintenance Execution
•Oversee the execution of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
•Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to restore operations quickly.
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
•Ensure lubrication routes are completed as scheduled, continue use of 5S principles.
•Be proactive in evaluating, prioritizing, and overseeing execution of maintenance work.
•Work with the Production Supervisor to ensure all processing equipment is available when needed and performs as required to meet customer demand.
•Service and repair of all mobile equipment. Equipment includes, but not limited to, forklifts, man-lifts, scissor-lifts, light duty maintenance vehicles.
•Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are performed and completed in a comprehensive, efficient, and timely manner.
•Coordinate and supervise training and indoctrination of new and existing maintenance crew members to improve work performance and ensure that all understand facility, departmental, and company policies and procedures.
•Conduct random inspections of machinery and equip entering fault reports for any defects.
•Accountable for payroll time entry and approval, managing time off requests for the maintenance crew.
•Conducts daily review of performed maintenance tasks.
•Ensure that all plant upgrades and installation of equipment are completed according to schedule and plan and done so in a safe, high quality and professional manner.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
•Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
•Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
•Conduct routine safety inspections and participate in audits.
•Ensures all safety procedures and MSHA regulations are followed by the maintenance team.
•Accountable for the health, safety, and environmental practices of the maintenance crew.
•Responsible for incident investigations within the maintenance department.
•Ensure safe maintenance practices, systems, and processes are followed and comply with all federal, state & MSHA regulations and standards.
•Conduct safety compliance audits (looking for unsafe conditions or unsafe acts).
•Promote a culture of safe work practices which emphasizes personal awareness, responsibility, and ownership.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
•10 years maintenance experience in mining and/or industrial environment; including mechanical, electrical, and process related troubleshooting experience.
•Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field (preferred).
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance planning, supervisory, or functioning lead roles.
•Experience working with or in Union.
Technical Skills
•Proficiency in JDE or similar Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
•Knowledge of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair practices.
•Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
•Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Hubble

Certifications (Preferred):
