is hiring a
Maintenance Mechanic Technicianin
Portsmouth, Virginia.
A maintenance mechanic is responsible for the entire operating facility, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PM), as well as special projects. In addition, the maintenance mechanic is responsible for maintaining all heavy equipment in the facility including balers, sort line, loaders, forklifts and heavy duty diesel vehicles. This will include regularly scheduled PM as well as minor repairs on all facility equipment. Inspect the building, grounds, and equipment. The maintenance mechanic works under
the supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
As a Maintenance Mechanic Technician, you will work to:
- Handle necessary repairs and maintenance
- Respond to service requests and repair products both internally and externally
- Install equipment and appliances
- Follow local and state building codes and comply with all company safety regulations
- Keep track of maintenance work/repairs in the CMMS system and writes shift reports.
- Report on any issues to the General and/or Plant manager
- Respond to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion
- Follow written and verbal instructions from the General Manager
- Collaborate with other maintenance team members and/or outside contractors as needed
- Read and follow manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions
- Use equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools
- The maintenance/mechanic tech works under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) for the machinery you are working on – use this every time you work on or in or around that machinery – preferably certificated
- Show up on time with all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools including radio – take part in plant morning meetings
- Bring problems, issues, and observations up with the plant manager and/or General manager
- Regular inspection of all equipment at a facility, including building, sort line, baler and rolling stock, daily review of the Daily Equipment Inspection Form
- Some MIG welding and fabrication
- Fill out and update the CMMS system each day
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and inspections on equipment and trouble shoot potential problems
- Ability to make repairs
- Ensuring the compliance of all corporate policies and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules while conducting work functions
- Maintaining a record of service cycles and other maintenance activities conducted
- Efficiently managing time and completing all tasks assigned by the supervisory authority
- Quoting and placing orders for spare and replacement parts and completing all necessary documentation for the same
- Ensure operators are completing pre-run inspections, PM, and services and review them, store files in designated folder on-site and document on internal system
- Report any existing damages and immediate repairs to the General/Plant Manager
- Appropriately use, maintain, and handle all repair and testing tools and equipment.
- Ability to take on additional tasks as needed
- Experience as a heavy diesel mechanic, able to change tires on large equipment, replace drums & brakes, oil changes, engine repair and repair trailers and chassis as needed
- Responsible for prevented maintenance on all vehicles, equipment, & machinery.
- Collaborate with team members to provide comprehensive training for new employees, ensuring they are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively
- Overseeing daily operations when General Manager and Production Supervisor are not at the plant
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Works well as a team member and is not afraid to ask for help or questions
- Ability to troubleshoot and make repairs using testing and repair all equipment as needed
- Ability to MIG weld and do light/medium fabrication
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines while working independently
- Heavy diesel equipment experience preferred
- Ability to operate a computer for small tasks like sending emails, reporting issues and concerns
- Ability to adhere to company policies and rules set forth
- Promotes the Company's safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work location
- Ability to maintain a reliable attendance record
- Supervising Daily Operations:
Act as the lead when the Plant Manager and Recycling Supervisor are off-site
- Promoting Workplace Safety:
Monitor adherence to company safety policies and procedures
- Encouraging Team Collaboration:
Support a positive work culture by fostering cooperation and teamwork
