Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to plan and execute complex machining operations
Set up and operate both manual and CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs) to produce precision parts
Fabricate, repair, and maintain jigs, dies, fixtures, gauges, and machine components
Use metrology tools (micrometers, indicators, CMMs, optical comparators) to ensure tight tolerances and quality control
Repair worn or damaged tooling using welding, grinding, and re-machining techniques
Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve tooling design and reduce downtime
Program CNC machines using G-code and CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.)
Perform heat treatment and material testing for tool hardening and optimization
Maintain tool room inventory and traceability of custom-fabricated components
Apply 5S and lean manufacturing practices to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
Mentor and support apprentice machinists and tool room trainees
Follow all safety protocols including PPE usage, machine guarding, and lockout/tagout procedures
Experience: 5+ years in tool making, precision machining, or mold/die fabrication in an industrial environment
Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training in machining/tool making preferred
Apprenticeship: Completion of a recognized machinist/tool maker apprenticeship strongly preferred
Use of metrology instruments and quality control techniques
Familiarity with heat treating and various metals' machining properties
Mindset: Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and self-driven with strong problem-solving skills
