GMB Heavy Industries is a respected supplier of custom-designed equipment to steel manufacturers throughout North America. Due to its continued penetration of the market and sales growth, GMB is seeking a Machinist to join our team. This position would perform a critical role in the company ensuring that GMB equipment is manufactured with focus on cost, quality and timing.
The role includes machining of parts and the assembly of components that are used within the equipment we supply to our customers. Assembling of machinery is a substantial part of this role in addition to the day-to-day machining requirements.
Set up and operate various manual machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders and horizontal boring mills to create or modify parts.
Read and understand complex technical drawings to determine the proper sequence of operations, dimensions, and specifications.
Inspect machined parts and supplier parts using various measuring tools to verify accuracy and ensure they conform to quality standards and design specifications.
Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments to machinery to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Monitor machine performance, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot issues and enhance efficiency.
Work with the shop staff to assemble equipment as required.
Adhere to safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and ensure all equipment is handled safely.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating a variety of manual machine tools.
Technical Drawings: Strong ability to read and interpret specifications, and technical documentation.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for achieving precision in machining.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve machining and assembly issues effectively.
Mathematics: Solid understanding of shop mathematics and geometry for accurate measurements and calculations.
Physical Dexterity: Manual dexterity for handling tools and positioning materials.
Adaptability: Willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
Training: Completion of trade school, an apprenticeship program, or equivalent experience is an advantage.
