Wastech Services, a subsidiary of the Belkorp Group of Companies, is a BC-based company. We operate the Campbell Hill Landfill in Cache Creek, BC and are also responsible for the post closure care of the Cache Creek Landfill, also located in Cache Creek, BC. Wastech Services’ offices are located in Kamloops, BC and Burnaby, BC.
We are looking to add a Logistics & Fleet Maintenance Specialist to our team. This position will focus on supporting our fleet maintenance and logistics teams for the Campbell Hill Landfill, specifically with tracking and overseeing maintenance our fleet of trailers and tractors, and ensuring efficient movement of b-train trailers and walking floor trailers to and from the Campbell Hill Landfill. This position will be based out of our Burnaby, BC office or Kamloops, BC office, with regular visits to our Cache Creek facilities.
- Creating, maintaining, and adjusting daily hauling schedules to accommodate transportation of goods to and from Wastech’s customer locations within British Columbia. This involves working closely with our current logistics and operations team, contractors, contracted haulers, and customers’ logistics contacts.
- Proactively monitoring the movement of our haulers via GPS as well as weather & road conditions on a regular basis to forecast any potential delays and closures (caused by snow, washouts, vehicle accidents, road construction, etc.). Pivoting as necessary (detour routes, schedule manipulation, etc.) to optimize inbound tonnage. Reporting and documenting any deviations in dispatched schedules and any non-conformances to relevant team members.
- Promptly resolving any logistics and maintenance-related issues that are flagged and communicating / escalating as necessary.
- Regularly monitoring and documenting the maintenance condition of our medium-size bulk haul fleet, our maintenance-related inventory, and our operational assets. The equipment fleet includes highway and site tractors, b-train trailers, and walking floor trailers.
- Diligently planning for and scheduling equipment maintenance with trusted suppliers and vendors, after a comprehensive and critical review of the quotes obtained.
- Documenting and maintaining logistics and maintenance data in our current system while providing suggestions for increased efficiency and effectiveness. Analyze historical data to identify trends and seek opportunities to optimize costs.
- Providing suggestions to Wastech’s logistics and fleet maintenance procedures for continual improvement.
- Conducting site visits to our facilities in Cache Creek, to our Kamloops office, and to various customer, vendor, supplier locations in BC as needed.
- Communicating promptly in a clear and concise manner internally within the company and externally to relevant parties, with a strong focus on providing suggestions and solutions.
- Adhering to company policies and procedures related to purchasing, document management, and quality assurance.
- Filling in when required for critical administrative and operational tasks on site such as use of the landfill scale.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a technical or analytical focus.
- One year minimum of logistics experience relevant to bulk haul (movement of trailers and tractors) and preferably one year minimum of maintenance experience relevant to bulk haul equipment (trailers and tractors), with a desire to learn and grow in both the logistics and fleet maintenance fields.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and apply common reasoning to decision making.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office software, in particular Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to keep data and files organized and presentable.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Class 5 Drivers License in good standing, experience driving and working in all weather conditions, and the desire to travel to our facilities and customer / supplier locations when necessary and as directed.
