Metals Inventory Control Manager
Job Overview
The Metals Inventory Control Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the inventory of metals (such as steel, aluminum, copper, etc.) within the organization. This includes ensuring that inventory levels are maintained at optimal levels, accurately tracked, and properly stored. The manager will implement and maintain processes that minimize stockouts, overstock situations, and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations. The role is a working/physical managerial position. This role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to maintain smooth inventory operations.
Key Responsibilities
•Inventory Management & Control
•Oversee the entire metals inventory lifecycle, from receiving to storage to distribution.
•Ensure that inventory levels are consistently optimized to meet production demands without incurring excess stock.
•Develop and maintain accurate inventory records and reports, including product quantities, conditions, and locations.
•Perform regular inventory audits, reconciling physical stock with system records to identify discrepancies.
•Monitor and manage the flow of materials in and out of storage to minimize the risk of overstocking or stockouts.
•Continuously assess and improve inventory management processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
•Implement best practices for materials handling, storage, and tracking, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
•Work closely with procurement, production, and sales teams to forecast and plan inventory needs accurately.
•Team Management & Training
•Lead, train, and mentor a team of inventory control staff of 1-3 employees, warehouse personnel, and other relevant employees.
•Establish clear performance expectations and support ongoing staff development.
•Ensure team adherence to safety standards, company policies, and inventory control best practices.
•Vendor & Supplier Coordination
•Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely deliveries of materials.
•Address and resolve issues related to damaged or incorrect materials in collaboration with the quality control team.
•Negotiate and manage supplier contracts, focusing on inventory turnover rates, cost reductions, and material quality.
•Data Analysis & Reporting
•Utilize inventory management software and tools to analyze inventory trends and supply chain bottlenecks.
•Generate regular reports on inventory levels, turnover, aging materials, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
•Present findings and actionable insights to upper management, providing recommendations for improvements.
•Regulatory Compliance & Safety
•Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for metals storage and handling.
•Maintain and ensure the accuracy of metal-specific inventory data required for audits and regulatory reporting.
•Take proactive measures to minimize losses from damage, theft, or expiration of materials.
Qualifications
1. Experience:
•2+ years of experience in inventory management, supply chain, or warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a leadership or managerial role.
•Experience in metals or industrial materials inventory control is highly preferred.
•Strong knowledge of inventory management systems, ERP/MRP software

•Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
•Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple departments.
•Ability to lead and motivate a team.
•High attention to detail and accuracy.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and inventory management software.
3. Preferred Qualifications
•Certification in supply chain or inventory management (e.g., APICS CPIM, Six Sigma).
•Familiarity with lean inventory management practices.
•Prior experience in the metals industry or manufacturing environment is a MUST.
4. Physical Requirements
•Ability to work in a warehouse or industrial environment.
•Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs as needed.
•Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods.
•Ability to run a forklift, load and unload trucks
