Performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development by performing the following duties.
Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, balance scales, optical emission spectroscopy, XRF, tensile/compression testers, and other equipment.
Test and document material properties at various stages of production. Tests materials for presence and content of elements or substances such as copper, lead, zinc and other miscellaneous elements.
Tests samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
Records test results on standardized forms and/or computerized database.
May prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Two year technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
