Our team is dedicated to ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our facilities, and as such we are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join us.
About the Role:
The Lab Technician is responsible for inspection of raw feedstock coal ash materials, all testing related to final product certification, data management, and lab maintenance. This position works out of the Battle River facility located 16 kms south of Forestburg, Alberta, supporting the overnight shift.
What You Get to Do:
•Perform raw feedstock and final product testing through a combination of instrumental analyses, physical testing and inspections at site and at the mine
•Maintain accurate logbook data tracking and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
•Provide on-site support to mine personnel during ash hauls to contribute towards high quality infeed
•Complete routine calibration and daily standard checks and basic upkeep of laboratory equipment and maintain housekeeping to established standards
•Assist the Shift Supervisor with troubleshooting process issues where possible
•Collaborate and maintain good communication with Plant Operators and Feed Supervisor
•Make decisions based on the feed and production quality up to and including recommending shutting down the plant
•Understand and comply with all site safety rules and company policies
•Question unsafe practices and dangerous site conditions
•Understand and comply with Laboratory safe work practices
•Actively participate in health, safety, environmental, and financial improvement programs
What You Bring:
•College or Technical Diploma in a scientific discipline
•Knowledge of laboratory safe work practices and basic scientific methods
•Demonstrated safety mindset
•Ability to organize and execute activities successfully with a high level of personal initiative and motivation
•Well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
•Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills with good attention to detail
•Able to work outside in all seasons in all conditions with the ability to navigate stairs, ladders, and platforms on a routine basis
•Must meet physical demands of the role, including walking, lifting and carrying buckets of product for sampling
•Strong aptitude for learning
•Experience using Microsoft Suite
•Able to commute in all season weather conditions
•Flexibility in hours of work that maximizes necessary site support
•A valid class 5 driver’s license
•Experience in a professional laboratory environment is an asset
•Experience with mining or cement industries is an asset
•Experience with analytical instrumentation (XRF, Pycnometry, particle size analysis, Thermogravimetric Analyzer, sieve analyses, or others) is an asset
Please note the shift for this role is 7 PM to 7 AM, 7 days on/7 days off. Additionally, there could be a requirement for a rotation on dayshift.
