Accountability Objectives
The IT Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for the implementation, management, and support of Chugach Electric’s Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, specializing in either systems or network administration. This role ensures the reliability and performance of enterprise technology by maintaining critical infrastructure, infrastructure security, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing operations.
IT Infrastructure Specialist ’s focusing on Systems Administration manage server environments, virtualization platforms, storage solutions, and security to support business applications and IT operations. Those specializing in Network Administration design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, security, and connectivity solutions to ensure secure and efficient communication.
By working within their designated focus area, IT Infrastructure Specialists contribute to strategic technology initiatives, support business operations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance overall IT efficiency.

Responsibilities and Authorities
Performs Personally
Responsibilities associated with the Systems Focus Area:
•Manages server and system infrastructure, including installation configuration, and updates for physical and virtual servers.
•Oversees virtualization technologies such as VMware to ensure efficient resource utilization.
•Configures and manages enterprise applications and system services.
•Implements and supports endpoint protection and other system security measures.
•Performs routine patch management, executes infrastructure changes, and system updates at the operating system level.
Responsibilities associated with the Network Focus Area:
•Designs, configures, and manages network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
•Implements and supports routing protocols to optimize network traffic flow and performance.
•Configures and maintains VLANs, subnets, and access control lists (ACLs) for effective segmentation and security.
•Sets up and manages VPN solutions for secure site-to-site and remote access connectivity.
•Configures and supports high-availability solutions, including redundant routing, switching, and failover protocols.
•Collaborates with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to maintain connectivity and resolve external network issues.
•Monitors and optimizes wireless networks for signal coverage and performance.
Responsibilities associated with Both Focus Areas:
•Implements and optimizes technology solutions to meet operational and business needs across system and network infrastructure.
•Monitors system, security, and network health, performing proactive maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
•Manage security measures, including endpoint protection, access control policies, role-based permissions, and network security solutions (firewalls, IDS/IPS).
•Configures and manages backup and recovery solutions, ensuring data integrity and availability. Develops, tests, and maintains disaster recovery plans for both network and system infrastructure.
•Supports major incident response events, troubleshooting issues to resolution and escalating as needed. Provides expertise during major incident events, investigating and resolving issues related to both system and network failures.
•Develops and executes scripts to automate administrative tasks and streamline operations.
•Participates in capacity planning and resource optimization to ensure future scalability for both system and network infrastructure.
•Maintains up-to-date documentation for deployed technologies, including system and network configurations, operational activities, and performance data.
•Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure needs, improves efficiencies, and ensure seamless operations.
•Conducts troubleshooting hardware and manages vendor relationships for repairs and replacements.
•Installs and oversee the installation of infrastructure application software, upgrades, supported software patches and software configuration in a production, test, or development environment. Access and reviews production logging for supported applications.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field. Minimum of five years combined experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified to include administration of network, server, storage, and security infrastructure
OR
Current professional-level certification as a network professional, systems engineer, storage administrator, virtualization, or information systems security. Minimum of seven years combined experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified to include administration of network, server, storage, and security infrastructure
OR
Minimum of ten years combined experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified to include administration of network, storage, and security infrastructure
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Both Focus Areas:
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Capable of working independently or collaboratively within a team environment.
•Ability to accurately document technical procedures and configurations.
•Understanding of vendor strategies and industry best practices for IT infrastructure
•Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
•Effective organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and priorities
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant IT documentation tools.
Systems Focus:
•Proficiency in server administration, including Windows and Linux operating systems.
•Strong understanding of virtualization technologies.
•Experience with enterprise backup, recovery solutions, and storage systems.
•Familiarity with scripting languages for task automation.
•Knowledge of system security best practices, including access control, authentication mechanisms, and endpoint protection.
•Experience with system monitoring tools and log aggregation for performance analysis and troubleshooting.
Network Focus:
•Strong proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
•Expertise in routing and switching technologies, including dynamic routing protocols.
•Experience with VPN solutions for secure remote and site-to-site connectivity.
•Knowledge of network security measures, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access control policies.
•Familiarity with network monitoring and performance analysis tools to optimize traffic flow and identify bottlenecks.
•Experience with high-availability and failover technologies to ensure network reliability.
Working Conditions
•Standard office environment.
•This position is subject to call-out outside of normal working hours, with occasional weekend work
•Periodic travel to service and remote facilities
•Periodic travel to attend technical conferences, seminars, meetings, and training in and out of state
