This position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
INTERN GUIDELINES:
Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student’s intern position will end within three months after graduation.
Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 20-25 hours per week.
The Internal Auditing intern, under the direction of Senior Internal Auditor, works to assist in the execution of audit engagements - preparing clear and concise engagement documentation, including drafting observations and recommendations for improvements in selected areas within the Utility. The intern is expected to perform extensive data analytics utilizing auditing software, spreadsheet functionality, and business intelligence software. This internship is a great opportunity to build foundational auditing skills, such as applying professional skepticism, making sound and informed business judgments, and gaining a strong understanding of internal controls.
1. This position will be responsible for performing monthly and quarterly continuous monitoring activities. Continuous monitoring involves the near-real-time analysis of large data sets using audit software, spreadsheet analysis, and business intelligence software to identify anomalies, ensure compliance, and proactively assess risks across utility operations. This position will perform continuous monitoring for the following areas:
2. Under the direction of the Internal Auditing team:
o Performing reviews of large quantities of data, such as the use of company travel cards
o Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations, such as inventory processes
o Reviewing internal controls and segregation of duties throughout the organization
o Verifying compliance with contracts, laws, regulations, utility policies, and utility procedures
3. Provides assistance to the Internal Auditing team in identifying and evaluating potential risks that could impact the organization and in planning and completing the scheduled engagements.
4. Provides independent and objective analyses and consulting in compliance with The Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards.
5. Assists with researching formal accounting practices, industry best practices, and other related topics.
6. Prepares and delivers presentations to various groups as needed.
7. Communicates with all levels of employees throughout the Utility.
8. Maintains Internal Auditing office and library files – both physical and digital – along with other general administrative responsibilities.
9. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Internal Auditing team.
Minimum of one year college with an Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or other business-related major from an accredited college or university is required. A completion of six credit hours of accounting related classes is required. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Previous office work experience is preferred.

o Learn and efficiently use various computer programs (PeopleSoft, Concur, TeamMate, etc.).

o Successfully navigate various electronic programs including, but not limited, to Microsoft Office Suites, other applicable information technology applications, and self-service platforms.
Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, receive detailed information through oral communication is required. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.
Duties are primarily performed in an office environment.
