Geology and Geoscience interns have an exciting opportunity to work side-by-side with industry experts utilizing cutting-edge geological, geophysical, data science and engineering technologies on best-in-class oil and gas assets. Our geologists are part of multi-disciplinary team providing tremendous opportunity to learn the full scope of oil and gas resource plays. Team includes engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists, data scientists, land negotiators, regulatory professionals, operations professionals, and others with the varied expertise needed to achieve our strategic plans.
To ensure interns are given relevant, value-add and meaningful work we do not create specific assignments until April, but our intern projects are designed to provide value to the interns and the teams. The projects are impactful and will stretch your abilities, give you the opportunity to learn and gain new skills and help you launch your career in the geosciences.
Our Geoscience interns will be placed in one of the following roles:
- Exploration: evaluate new reservoirs, plays and new technologies.
- Reservoir Characterization: evaluate known reservoirs, fields, and plays; map reservoir geometry and properties, build reservoir models, determine critical parameters that influence productivity and economics, evaluate hydrocarbon volumes, extend the limits of known fields or plays.
- Development Operations: Build well plans, specify data acquisition requirements, oversee geological operations of drilling wells, geosteer horizontal wells, communicate well progress to all stakeholders, participate in completion design.
- Must be enrolled in a Geoscience graduate degree program.
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2026.
- Available May 2026 – August 2026.
- Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv's reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role.
Compensation may vary and will be determined by year in school.
