Intermediate Engineer 2 - Transmission Stations Engineering

Annual salary: $ 87,700.00 - 110,900.00
What you'll do
The Transmission Stations Division is anticipating a number of major projects which includes the construction of new Indoor
and Outdoor Substations along with the expansion of existing sites within BC Hydro’s Transmission system. Our work
supports sustainable growth and electrification throughout our province.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer focused on major electrical equipment to support
capital projects with specifications, acquisitions, and installation in substations.
•Specify technical requirements and performance criteria for substation equipment such as: power transformers, instrument
transformers, capacitor banks, STATCOM and SVC, power cables, switchgear, CBs, GIS, disconnect switches, etc.
•Develop procurement strategies, participate in strategic sourcing, vendor evaluation and negotiation.
•Approve and accept equipment: review equipment drawings, conduct design reviews, witness & accept factory testing.
•Issue Professional of Record assurance for safe energization in commissioning.
•Act as BC Hydro's "Owner's Engineer" by reviewing the work of external service providers to ensure compliance to
internal Engineering Standards, Design Codes, and accepted engineering practices.
•Coordinate equipment team members to ensure timely and effective project deliverables.
•Initiate studies, assess priorities and risks to ensure equipment meets industry standards and business requirements.
•Stay current on industry standards and practices.
•Embrace forward thinking and proactively prepare to adapt to newer technologies, including digitalization, fiber optics,
sensors, etc.
•Develop effective and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholder and suppliers.
•Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to junior staff.
What you bring
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.
•Must be registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a P. Eng with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
•Minimum of four (4)+ years of experience in a relevant field, including experience in North American electric utilities,
industrial or manufacturing plants.
•Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, team leadership and interpersonal skills.
•A self-starter with initiative and good problem-solving skills.
The following would be an asset:
•The position requires specialized knowledge of electrical power equipment - the ideal candidate would have design,
manufacturing, testing, maintenance and/or operations experience.
•Related experience in electrical equipment procurement, power system planning, protection and control design, etc.
•Participation and contribution to technical and professional societies (IEEE, IEC, CSA, CIGRE etc.)
