We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Power Tech to support design, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical power systems for upstream, midstream or downstream oil and gas facilities in Central PA, Southwest PA, Northern WV and Eastern Ohio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in high and low-voltage systems, power generation and distribution, as well as a solid understanding of safety standards and hazardous area classifications typical in oil and gas environments.
Target Responsibilities:•Support maintenance teams with troubleshooting, failure analysis and system upgrades.
•Assist in the planning, installation, and electrical maintenance of natural gas compression and power distribution.
•Conducts safety inspections and ensures that equipment is used in a safe and responsible manner.
•Coordinate, schedule and supervise day-to-day electrical operations.
•Anticipate, evaluate and troubleshoot abnormal and/or unusual operating conditions.
•Assist operations to optimize plant availability and maintain daily logs of activities.
•Work closely with field operations, instrumentation, automation and SCADA teams to ensure proper electrical interface.
•Oversees the acquisition of materials and cost control for operation of electrical facilities.
•Review vendor documentation for packaged systems (e.g., RTUs, motor skids) to ensure electrical compatibility and compliance.
•Utilize diagnostic and testing equipment and interpret results.
•Assign work projects, monitor work in progress and successfully adhere to established timelines and schedules.
•Supervise and perform work needed during station shutdown periods.
•Troubleshoot and maintain VFDs, motors and MCC lineups.
•Specify and integrate electrical components including transformers, VFDs, switchgear, MCCs and standby generators tailored to oilfield environments.
•Assist in the planning and oversight of highline installation.
•Respond to and dispatch appropriate personnel to power outages. This would include tracking the outage and ensuring portable power generation is installed if needed.
•Track the maintenance of station class transformers, relays, lightning arrestors and MCC’s.
•Ensure all designs comply with API, NEC, NFPA 70E, IEC and applicable local codes, with emphasis on Class I, Division 1 and 2 hazardous area requirements.
•May require some travel.
Minimum Requirements:
•High School diploma required. Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
•Should have 2-5 years of field experience in oil and gas. Related experience in other fields may be considered.
•A working knowledge of overhead powerline systems is preferred.
•Working knowledge of power distribution is preferred.
•Should have a working knowledge of Transformers and MCC’s.
•Must be able to safely work around voltages from 12VDC to 138,000VAC.
•Must be a highly safety minded individual, possess supervisory skills, be a motivated “self-starter” and demonstrate a high level of integrity.
•Must be able to read P&ID’S, Loop Drawings, One Lines, schematics and have basic computer skills (Excel, Word).
•Should have some knowledge in troubleshooting PLCs and be familiar with Allen-Bradley and Modicon protocols.
•Should be familiar with Insource (Wonderware), Vijeo Designer and Allen-Bradley Factory Talk.
•Must have a good understanding of the National Electric Code. Electrical certification/license preferred.
•Must be able and willing to work in adverse weather conditions, perform shift work, and availability on nights, weekends and holidays.
•Must possess good communication skills and the ability to work well with others to function as a team.
