This role is responsible for facilitating the X-energy site compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and all relevant X-energy standards, and Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) legal requirements throughout the life cycle of the project. This role is responsible for performing a range of inspections of site field activities and work processes for the X-energy site by conducting verification methods through oversight to determine whether X-energy site activities including all contractors’ work comply with all SHE requirements, industry standards, and project requirements. The role provides guidance on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations, and uses technical knowledge and skills to anticipate, recognize, and evaluate hazardous conditions and recommend adequate corrective action(s) and ensures corrections are made in a timely manner and implementation of appropriate controls. This role ensures that all employees are provided with a work environment that is free from any recognized hazards by establishing a safe workplace for all site personnel and visitors and fosters a culture of attention to safety, health, and environmental conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to talk, hear, walk, and move consistently throughout the day. May be subject to high temperatures, noises, and vibrations from generating equipment. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds. May be required to work in cramped spaces.
This role may work from an active construction site setting, which may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind. The noise level may be loud, with frequent exposure to heavy machinery, power tools, and other construction-related equipment. In this setting, personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
- Ensure that site SHE Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments are conducted and enforces preventative measures, ensure that new hazards or conditions are documented, risk assessed and mitigated.
- Assist in establishing Workplace Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans and ensure resources are identified and appointed for First Aiders and Evacuation Wardens.
- Manage and coordinate emergency response tasks in any emergency.
- Facilitate and ensure all emergency drills are conducted as per schedule or as needed.
- Authority to stop work in progress that does not comply with X-energy, statutory or legal requirements where the safety and health of personnel is in jeopardy or serious environmental violations are conducted. Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
- Interface with the Corporate SHE Officer about any unresolved issues/risks to obtain resolution including any required OSHA training for X-energy employees, contractors, and maintenance personnel.
- Conduct relevant site SHE inspections (including first aid, AED, fire extinguishers) and ensure issues or non-conformities identified are corrected in a timely manner.
- Ensure work and services by X-energy partners, suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors are carried out as per contractor’s Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan in a manner consistent with X-energy, OSHA and SHE standards, reviewing practices through on-site inspections to ensure compliance and taking corrective action for non-compliances and deviations, including requirements for recycling, protection of the environment and prevention of pollution.
- Perform oversight and monitoring of construction, installations, commissioning, maintenance, and conduct of all activities performed by contractors and X-energy personnel, disposal of substances, etc. where applicable to ensure compliance with applicable requirements of OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and X-energy standards.
- Identify SHE problems during inspections; initiate corrective action, recommend, or provide solutions and verify implementation of solutions in all areas regarding X-energy activities as appropriate.
- Prepare daily oversight reports/records as required, and submit them to the Corporate SHE Officer, identify any issues and advise when a contractor or X-energy personnel fails to perform work as per the X-energy SHE Management Plan, X-energy SHE Requirements for Construction Contractors Process Standard and specifications.
- Ensure that any near misses, incidents, and accidents are recorded, reported, and investigated as per procedure.
- Provide daily reports on Incidents to the Corporate SHE Officer where applicable and immediately after an incident as per the Notification Directive for Incident Response, or as soon as possible of any incident.
- Ensure that all relevant legal postings and signage are prominently posted e.g. OSHA postings.
- Attend daily Morning Briefs/Toolbox Talks/Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) safety meetings.
- Support and promote the company’s safety culture in all activities.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic-level knowledge of OSHA and Environmental regulations, codes, standards and requirements, relevant EPA procedures.
- Knowledge of construction inspection principles and practices.
- Be familiar with operational work controls (Lockout/Tagout, isolation and clearing of work area isolations, safe work permits etc.).
- Understands how to perform oversight to ensure OSHA requirements are implemented for inspection of lifting equipment, working at heights, catwalks, qualification, licenses, certifications etc.
- Experience reading and interpreting all construction documents, including plans, specifications, and shop drawings.

- Occasional climbing, bending/crouching.
