Inspector, Construction - I, II or III

The Construction Inspector position for Virginia Natural Gas is instrumental to ensuring our pipeline assets are constructed in a safe, quality, compliant, and efficient manner. The pipeline assets constructed by our internal and external crews are the assets that fuel our Company’s success and provide millions of customers safe and reliable gas service. Please note, this position is posted as a job family and can be filled at an Inspector Construction, I (Level 3), Inspector Construction, II (Level 4) or Inspector Construction III (Level 5) depending on experience. This position will be located at the Newport News Service Center or Virginia Beach As Our Inspector Construction, a Typical Day Might Include:

- Overseeing construction of underground gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties to ensure they are installed per the design

- Inspecting Construction Activities (safety, compliance, quality, environmental, locates and restoration) to ensure quality & safety standards are met & documented.

- Maintaining customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities, and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTs, counties, etc.).

- Serving as technical support for Company Specifications (OPM), Operator Qualifications (OQ) and Construction Quality Assurance/Control (CQA) and makes corrective actions as needed.

What You'll Bring:

Inspector Construction, I Level 3 Required

- High School Diploma or GED

- 0 years of industrial construction experience with related degree

- 2 years of industrial construction experience with no degree

- Vocational degree or certificate in a technical field preferred

- Valid driver’s license required

- Basic MS Word, Excel, Outlook

- Basic interpretation of design drawings and specifications

- Basic knowledge of piping construction techniques and welding

- Valid Driver’s License

Inspector Construction, II

Level 4 Required

- High School Diploma or GED

- 2 years of industrial construction experience with related degree

- 4 years of industrial construction experience with no degree

- Demonstrated success in quality control on small industrial construction projects

- Valid driver’s license required

- Basic construction contract and construction safety knowledge

- Basic MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint

- Intermediate interpretation of design drawings and specifications

- Basic knowledge of gas industry and OSHA regulations and their impact on construction processes

- Intermediate knowledge of piping construction techniques, welding; basic knowledge of NDE, excavation, compaction, coating, inspection, pressure testing, pigging/cleaning

- Valid Driver’s License

Inspector Construction, III

Level 5 Required

- High School Diploma or GED

- 4 years of industrial construction experience with no degree

- 6 years of experience with no degree

- CWI, CPWI, AMPP CIP-1, AMPP CP-1 or API 1169

- Intermediate MSWord, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint & GIS

- Intermediate construction contract and construction safety knowledge

- Intermediate effective written and verbal communication with supervision, contractors, inspectors, public, management, and company leadership

- Intermediate knowledge of piping construction techniques, welding, NDE, excavation, compaction, coating, inspection, pressure testing, pigging/cleaning; basic knowledge of tapping/stopping, purging, flow interruption

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

- This is a field-based position and work location is variable based on the location of the project.

- The Construction Inspector will be required to be on the job site during construction hours. Long workdays and weekend work may be required. Periods of night shift work may be required.

- Standing and/or walking construction sites for long periods of time may be required.

- Lifting objects up to 50lbs maybe required.

- Driving a Company vehicle for long trips or commutes may be required.

- Overnight travel may be required up to 50% of the time.

- Working in all types of weather conditions may be required.

- Climbing in and out of excavations, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders to inspect pipeline construction activity may be required.

- Walking on changing elevation and/or uneven surfaces may be required.

Other Details:

- Relocation packages are not available for this position. Incumbent must be located within the service territory or be able to self-relocate to the service territory.
