Summary

The Industrial Painter is responsible for preparing and applying coatings to hydraulic cylinders and related components in accordance with company quality standards and customer specifications. This role is essential in ensuring finished products are protected from corrosion and meet aesthetic and durability expectations. In addition to painting responsibilities, the role includes supporting shipping and receiving operations, material movement, and inventory stocking to ensure smooth workflow across the shop floor.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

Surface Preparation & Coating:

- Clean, degrease, sandblast, or manually prepare metal surfaces for painting

- Mask and plug machined or critical surfaces to protect from overspray

- Mix and apply primers and industrial paints using air or airless spray equipment

- Apply coatings to achieve specified film thickness, texture, and finish

Quality & Safety:

- Inspect painted parts for proper adhesion, coverage, and finish quality

- Maintain accurate records of paint usage, lot numbers, and job completion

- Ensure proper ventilation, fire prevention, and safe handling of flammable materials

- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements

Maintenance & Housekeeping:

- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of paint booths, guns, and equipment

- Monitor inventory of paint and consumables; report shortages or reordering needs

- Keep painting areas clean, organized, and free from hazards

Shipping, Receiving & Material Handling (Other Duties):

- Receive incoming parts and materials; verify against packing slips or POs

- Prepare and package products for shipment, ensuring protection and correct labeling

- Load and unload materials using pallet jacks, carts, or forklifts (if certified)

- Move parts and materials within the shop to support production needs

- Stock inventory in appropriate storage locations and update records as needed

- Assist with inventory cycle counts and help maintain organized stock areas

Qualifications/Skills

- 2+ years of industrial painting experience (preferably with hydraulic or heavy equipment components)

- Knowledge of surface prep techniques, spray equipment, and coating systems

- Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and technical data sheets

- Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship

- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

- Physical stamina to lift parts, stand, bend, and reach for long periods

- Forklift operation certification is an asset

- Basic computer skills for logging inventory or shipment data

- Knowledge of WHMIS and safe handling of hazardous materials is an asset
