•Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
•Performs necessary functions related to development of work methods, time studies, work measurement standards and material flow for production facilities.
•Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with Plant ISO Quality system and standards to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
•Assists, directs and coaches workers engaged in auditing, receiving inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products. Use strong analytical and statistical skills in problem solving and sampling requirements.
•Identifies, promotes, and assists in training activities related to product quality and reliability.
•Investigate customer complaints regarding quality.
•Works as an active participant in concurrent engineering of new products, revised products, and existing products to ensure superior product design and effective corrective and preventive action on existing products.
•Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments and standards for our industry.
•Responsible for maintaining or having maintained plant copies of product specifications, drawings, and other quality standard data.
•Supports new product introduction process by providing cost estimates, capacity studies, capability studies and process development efforts. Assists in the transition from design to manufacture by reviewing prints and specifications to insure manufacturability with minimum process variance. Maintains ERP database with accurate and timely information for cost and manufacturing evaluation.
•Prepares ongoing cost estimates during the design process and updates the design engineer on effect of design decisions on the cost profile. Provides process input such as capability and capacity to support the design for manufacturing process.
•Coordinates the initial product development plans with manufacturing to implement a viable and cost-efficient method of manufacture at product introduction. Measures baseline costs against actual costs and ensure process adjustments are made to keep actual costs in line with base.
•Determines and specifies the nature and type of packaging to be used and the quantities to be packed. Maintains packaging specification manual as required by ISO 9001 guidelines.
•Develops manufacturing plans in preparation for routing and structuring of parts. Responsible for the smooth transfer of documentation to production.
•Performs a lead role in the annual standards update by performing database inquiries to ensure the integrity of costs prior to standards roll at year-end.
•Works with production control to assist in the management of inventory levels at the component, sub-assembly and finished goods level. Leads efforts to implement order systems, and reduction of BOM levels.
•Monitors plant performance measurement systems. Advises and assists plant management in the use of the systems and recommends appropriate changes and improvements based on analysis of data and observation and discussion with shop floor team representatives.
•Supports plant efforts to drive variable and fixed cost improvements. Assists/facilitates projects in the areas of:
+ Setup Reduction
+ Visual Management and measured improvement programs
+ Plant layout and product flow to achieve lean manufacturing models
+ Material substitution
+ New process introduction
•Provides engineering technical support for lean initiatives and Kaizan events.
•Establish and maintain on-going working relationships with suppliers and provides support to expedite the fabrication process. Keeps product development teams appraised of packaging status and related issues.
•Designs packaging for functional strength, low cost, ease of handling and efficiency of shipping using kit concepts and segmentation where feasible. Ensures that packaging designs improve employee safety by appropriately limiting weights and addressing ergonomic assembly and handling issues. Seeks to consolidate packaging where feasible.
•Designs stacking, banding and palletizing best practices into packaging designs.

SKILLS
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Should be competent in using personal computer applications including word processing, database management, project management and spreadsheets. Should have excellence CAD design experience with experience in PRO/E preferred. Should have very good project management skills. Being able to utilize CAPE Pack software is a bonus.
EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Engineering preferred. Will consider Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with appropriate level of industrial packaging design experience.
EXPERIENCE
Should have 3-5 years’ experience in a Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering position with a specific focus in packaging design engineering. Packaging engineering experience should be focused on industrial products rather than retail packaging where strength, functionality, sustainability and costs are the key design criteria.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must possess mobility to work in a standard plant and office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
