Position Overview
Guzman Energy is seeking a talented attorney with 3+ years of experience to join our legal team in Denver. The ideal candidate will have a background in energy, regulatory law (state utility commission, FERC), and commercial negotiations. This role will work closely with our supply team as well as throughout the organization to support business development, transactional, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Salary Range:
$190k-220k DOE
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide legal support to the commercial team throughout deal negotiation and execution
•Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and other agreements including interconnection agreements and EPC agreements
•Advise on the development of new generating resources
•Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions
•Assist with dispute resolution and contract administration
•Conduct legal research and provide guidance on energy market developments including SPP-West, CAISO-EDAM and others
•Facilitate and oversee outside counsel
•Work with internal business and operations teams to improve contracting processes and management, including developing internal policies regarding the same.
Qualifications:
•JD from an accredited law school
•3+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in energy, regulatory, or commercial transactions
•Active Colorado bar license or eligibility to obtain single client counsel certification
•Strong understanding of the energy industry, contract law, and commercial principles
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Superior attention to detail and analytical abilities
•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
•Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Preferred Skills and Experience:
•Prior experience with energy transactions and the development of generating resources
•Familiarity with transmission tariffs and the interconnection process
•Background in project finance or energy development
•Knowledge of environmental attributes and renewable energy credits
