Department Overview
Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation, and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.
Position Summary
This is an ESC represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining.
This position is onsite, working from your assigned location and assigned to travel based on business needs.
Position will be headquartered in Magalia, CA.
This is an entry level position that works under the direction of the Hydrographic Supervisor. This position will be expected to perform most hydrographic duties with technical oversight. They will begin to familiarize themselves with FERC/USGS surface water data collection methods and submittal of such record, water rights and other environmental related work in their assigned watersheds. Must demonstrate initiative in learning all aspects of the role. Travel of up to 50% may be expected in support of full-time responsibilities.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
California Minimum: $ 93,108
California Maximum: $115,056
Job Responsibilities Conduct scheduled inspections and stream flow measurements Adhere to United States Geological Survey (USGS) protocols for surface water data acquisition and annual report furnishment Ensure the upkeep and submission of regulatory and operational surface water records. Ensure the timely submission of annual furnished USGS reports Assist in the installation, calibration, operation and maintenance of assigned stream and reservoir gauging equipment Assist with ultrasonic flowmeter installation and operation Collect and processes surface water data Assist with snow surveys Work with engineering, consultants and contract staff on specific projects Handle and coordinate some billings for the local Watershed May attend meetings, workshops, and conferences with technical and management representatives of state, federal, local water agencies and other stakeholder groups Inputs data into surface water data base Contributes to analytical and technical assistance to Hydro Operations and Maintenance and other departments as may be needed Resolves problems of limited scope. Assignments typically require standard solutions. Assignments are regularly reviewed. Supports Hydrographers, Local Operations, Hydro Scheduling, Consultants and Hydro Analyst in data production, reduction and manipulation towards the optimization of hydro production
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A 4-year BS Degree or higher in water/hydrology, meteorology, geology, water resources, engineering soils, natural resources or geology related field Valid Driver’s License by Day 1
Desired Qualifications: Acquiring necessary skills for accurate acquisition, application and documentation of surface water records Demonstrates basic skills and understanding of hydrographic and water related operations May schedule daily work load. Handles multiple projects during any given day Has some knowledge as to where to retrieve data for various uses including meeting data requests Has basic knowledge of hydro database and hydroelectric system including stream/reservoir gages and weather stations in assigned area
