About the Job
We are hiring a Human Resources Manager to lead HR operations across our Canadian business consisting of 20 branches and 600+ employees. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role oversees recruitment, training, performance management, and policy development. As a HR business partner, will advise leadership on HR strategies , support recruitment including immigration programs, monitor turnover, and manage workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
Location: The ideal candidate will be preferably based in either Calgary, Edmonton or Sudbury Ontario
Salary range: C$100,000 to C$140,000
Job Summary:
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and executing all HR functions in alignment with organizational goals. This includes oversight of recruitment, employee relations, benefits and pension administration, compliance, performance management, and training. A key aspect of the role involves managing relationships with two labour unions, ensuring adherence to collective agreements, and fostering a collaborative labour relations environment. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and possess reasonable speaking and reading skills in French to support a bilingual workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee & Labour Relations
•Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and supervisors on employee and labour relations matters.
•Provide guidance on employment legislation and HR best practices.
•Address employee concerns and if required assist in resolution.
•Act as the primary liaison with two labour unions.
•Interpret and administer collective agreements and manage grievance processes.
•Lead arbitration preparation and union negotiations.
•Ensure compliance with Canadian labour laws and maintain positive union-management relations.
Recruitment & Onboarding
•Develop and implement strategies to attract diverse, bilingual talent.
•Manage the full recruitment lifecycle and onboarding experience.
Compensation, Benefits & Pensions
•Design and manage compensation and benefits programs.
•Negotiate and administer health insurance plans with providers.
•Oversee pension fund programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
•Align compensation and benefits with market standards.
Compliance & Policy Management
•Ensure compliance with Canadian employment laws and bilingual workplace requirements.
•Maintain and update HR policies and procedures.
HR Strategy & Reporting
•Contribute to strategic HR planning and organizational development.
•Prepare and present HR metrics to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
•10+ years of progressive HR experience, including in unionized environments.
•Proven experience managing collective agreements.
•Experience negotiating health insurance plans and managing pension funds.
•Fluency in English is required; reasonable proficiency in spoken and written French is necessary.
•Strong knowledge of Canadian labour laws and HR best practices.
•Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
•Proficiency in ADP HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
•Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
•Strong coaching and influencing skills.
•Solid understanding of change management principles and practices.
