We are seeking an experienced Highway Heavy Traveling Utility Foreman to lead and manage utility installation crews on a variety of highway and heavy civil construction projects across Central and Northern Minnesota, Iowa, and the broader Upper Midwest region. The Foreman will be responsible for overseeing field operations, ensuring safety, productivity, and quality standards are met, and acting as a liaison between crews and project management.
This is a traveling role with frequent overnight stays required. All travel expenses are covered by the company, with per diem provided.
Key Responsibilities:
•Supervise and coordinate daily activities of utility crews including excavation, trenching, conduit installation, water/sewer mains, storm drainage, and related heavy civil scopes.
•Oversee installation of large diameter pipe, including water, sewer, and storm systems.
•Manage work in dewatering and wet soil conditions, including appropriate methods to maintain trench and excavation safety and stability.
•Ensure proper execution and documentation of pipe testing (e.g., pressure testing, mandrel, air/vacuum testing).
•Read and interpret project plans, specifications, and blueprints.
•Ensure all work complies with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
•Monitor crew performance and productivity, assigning tasks and adjusting workflow to meet project timelines and budgets.
•Conduct daily safety meetings, inspections, and documentation.
•Communicate regularly with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
•Maintain accurate records of crew hours, equipment usage, material deliveries, and project progress.
•Assist with scheduling, material ordering, and problem-solving in the field.
•Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
•5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a Foreman or supervisory role.
•Proven experience with large diameter pipe installation, including associated safety and operational considerations.
•Experience working in dewatering scenarios and wet/mucky conditions.
•Strong understanding of pipe testing procedures and quality assurance practices.
•Extensive knowledge of underground utility installation, especially in highway and DOT environments.
•Ability to travel extensively across MN, IA, and the Upper Midwest (typically 80–100% of the time).
•Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
•Proven leadership and team management skills.
•Strong communication and organizational abilities.
•Experience with GPS equipment, lasers, and other modern construction technologies is a plus.
•OSHA 30-hour certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
