Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced
Heavy Equipment Operatorto support deep trench utility installations ranging from 8 to 24 feet deep. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in operating a variety of machinery, understands trench safety protocols, and can perform in high-pressure environments. This role is key to maintaining efficiency and safety on our job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, compactors, graders, front-end loaders, skid steers, and articulated trucks.
- Set trench boxes and shoring systems to ensure safe excavation practices.
- Perform daily pre-check inspections on assigned equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Ensure all fuel and fluid levels are maintained at normal operating levels.
- Grease and lubricate all fittings prior to use and throughout the workday as needed.
- Clean windshields and cab glass daily to maintain visibility.
- Follow site grading plans, read grade stakes, and operate within medium to fine grade tolerances.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on site.
- Work safely and productively for extended hours (up to 12 hours per day).
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and operate safely around personnel and obstacles.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, humidity, wind, and cold.
- Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Ability to read and interpret job site plans and grade stakes.
- Must have basic math, reading, and writing skills.
- Must follow direction and communicate effectively with supervisors and crew.
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Tech-savvy and able to use a smartphone for job tracking or communication apps.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs (team lift over 75 lbs).
- Experience working safely around deep excavations, trench shields, and confined spaces.
- Capable of operating both trucks and heavy equipment efficiently.
- Knowledge of underground utility installation is strongly preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred).
- Clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating heavy equipment in underground utility construction.
