We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at TMS International, LLC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy machinery used in the steel mill, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and minimal downtime.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, including cranes, forklifts, mobile machinery, and industrial trucks used in steel production.
- Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: Diagnose, repair, and replace faulty hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ensuring smooth operation of equipment.
- Welding & Fabrication: Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks as required to repair or replace components of machinery and structures.
- Routine Inspections: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections on heavy equipment, including testing and adjusting mechanisms for safe and effective operations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical issues and perform diagnostic tests to ensure proper functioning of machinery. Make necessary repairs or adjustments to prevent machine failure.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring that all equipment is operating correctly.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts inventory. Document work orders and parts used for tracking purposes.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance technicians, operators, and managers to ensure equipment is operating efficiently and production goals are met.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, preferably in a steel mill or industrial environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in heavy equipment.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in welding, hydraulics, or heavy equipment maintenance are preferred.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
- Tools: Must have own hand tools, with specialty tools provided by the company.
- Safety Conscious: Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety guidelines and protocols.
- Schedule: Full-time position, with potential for overtime and weekend work.
- Environment: Work in a noisy, hot, and sometimes hazardous steel mill environment. Proper safety equipment will be provided.
