Job Title: Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician
Location: Kamloops, BC and surrounding area
Base Rate: $62.50/hr.
OT: 4 hours daily paid out at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 5x2, 7x7 or 14X14 - 12 hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.
Accommodations: Company housing is provided at no additional cost some sites have camp accommodations
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Time: Paid where applicable
Meal Allowance: $60 per day when not in camp

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 130 employees and a fleet of over 35 fully tooled service trucks, taking care of customers throughout Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We are looking for self-starters who are career-minded, ready, and willing to get the job done in a safe, positive manner, and must be able to work professionally with co-workers and customers. This job is in many locations across BC, SK, and ON, and we are mainly servicing mining and construction equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair, various types, and brands of heavy equipment.
- Utilize computerized and other testing equipment to determine repairs and create detailed service reports.
- Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts.
- Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
- Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and complete preventative maintenance requirements.
- Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance.
- Make recommendations regarding repairs and methods for improvement.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required.
- Arrive at work fit-for-duty each day.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience working in the field preferably working out of a service truck working with off-road construction and mining equipment.
- Experience with mining equipment will be considered an asset.
- Machine brands preferably worked on are Hitachi, CAT, John Deere, Komatsu, etc..
- Must be a Journeyman Heavy Duty Off-Road Technician.
- Red Seal needed if coming from out of province.
- Solid experience diagnosing and troubleshooting.
- Be proficient in English, both verbal and written
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Pass a Criminal Record check
- Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and alcohol breath test
- Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably
- Not be seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering sub-contractor opportunities at this time)
