Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager – Eastern Canada, the Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for travelling to various client sites to provide complete, thorough, and professional health, safety and environmental recommendations; for promoting a positive safety culture and for anticipating and assessing health and safety hazards.
· Promote Health & Safety Awareness: Build upon our existing safety culture and program strengths by engaging with our workforce. Effectively communicate the importance of safety and advocate for our corporate Health & Safety (H&S) objectives, policies, and procedures.
· Provide Leadership and Guidance: Offer leadership, guidance, and recommendations to ensure workplace health and safety compliance is maintained at all times.
· Program Implementation: Support the implementation of H&S programs, ensuring that they are effectively put into practice.
· Regulatory Expertise: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of applicable regulatory structures, standards, guidelines, and requirements in multiple jurisdictions throughout Western Canada.
· H&S Observations: Perform H&S observations at various locations to identify potential hazards and risks.
· Incident Investigation: Experience in investigating incidents using various incident methodologies and writing investigation reports.
· Training and Meetings: Assist in the delivery of pre- and post-shift safety meetings.
· Field Engagement: Proactive, self-motivated ongoing HS field support.
· Client Relationships: Foster and maintain positive client relationships, ensuring alignment with their safety objectives.
· Working Experience: 2 + years’ experience working within plant and refinery setting.
· Certifications: NCSO, First Aid, Confined Space, Working at Heights certifications would be considered an asset.
· Education: Occupational Health and Safety Certification/Diploma is considered an asset.
· Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation in all jurisdictions throughout Canada.
· Driver's License: Clean class G driver's license.
· Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Flexibility: Willing and able to travel for extended periods, work 10-12-hour shifts (including nights, weekends, and out-of-town assignments), and adapt to various climate conditions.
· Site Access: Ability to access client sites, which may require clearance of a drug and alcohol screen.
