APR’s Operation & Maintenance Team is responsible for managing Power Plant Operations and maintaining the full life cycle of the company’s power-generation assets, including gas turbines, alternators, and Balance of Plant.
The Gas Turbine Mechanical Specialist plays a key role in Installation & Commissioning, Operations & Maintenance, and demobilization of TM2500 and FT-8 gas turbine units. Working closely with field engineers and technical crews, this position ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all mechanical systems supporting the fleet. The Specialist will lead troubleshooting, repair, and inspection activities to resolve mechanical issues that impact turbine performance or availability. Responsibilities include planning and executing field repairs, coordinating semi-annual and annual inspections in accordance with OEM and company standards, reviewing field service and borescope reports, maintaining maintenance records, and ensuring high standards of workmanship and documentation across all assets.
This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Balance of Plant, to develop and implement maintenance strategies aligned with operational and business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a multidisciplinary background combining mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems knowledge, with a primary focus on mechanical systems. The position requires willingness to travel up to 50% to support field service operations, maintenance campaigns, installations, and outage execution.
- Adhere strictly to APR Energy safety standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable company policies.
- Perform pre-commissioning, commissioning, routine audits, and major maintenance activities for gas turbine and auxiliary systems.
- Lead / Support field teams during new installations, maintenance, and outage campaigns to ensure alignment with overall project schedules and plant availability targets.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to mechanical integration strategies for gas turbine systems.
- Execute mechanical upgrades and modifications to enhance performance, safety, and operational reliability.
- Collaborate with project and customer teams to develop start-up schedules and commissioning plans.
- Coordinate with the Team to ensure design requirements, tools, consumables, and parts are available for power-plant commissioning.
- Review completed work packages regularly to verify compliance with design, safety, and reliability standards during commissioning and subsequent plant operations.
- Conduct formal system handover to Plant Operations post-Commercial Operation Date (COD), including preparation of complete system turnover documentation.
- Perform periodic audits and oversee major maintenance events in accordance with OEM and company guidelines.
- Support site teams in resolving complex mechanical and system-level issues to maximize plant availability and reliability.
- Monitor and document abnormal operating conditions or out-of-tolerance parameters, initiating timely corrective actions and reporting.
- Respond promptly to mechanical inquiries from the GT Operations Help Desk providing technical support to operational sites; travel to field locations as required.
- Support the implementation of OEM technical and service bulletins, ensuring plant teams execute all required updates and modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs in accordance with approved documentation standards.
- Deliver on-the-job technical training to plant operations and maintenance personnel.
- Required degree in Engineering with the emphasis on Mechanical engineering or other sufficiently relevant technical study.
- Required 10 + years of experience working with aero derivate gas turbines. - Experience in working with General Electric LM/TM 2500 Base, Plus, +G4, & P&W FT8 Mobilepac.- Packaged power experience is required. experience working in power plants, Illustrated parts breakdown, and various GT manuals.
- Ability to troubleshoot and rectify GT mechanical systems
- Required experience with gas turbine general architecture and design, gas turbine support and ancillary systems.
- Borescope experience for GE and Pratt and Whitney units.
- Efficient in the Engine rebuild and module replacement, to include compressor, hot section overhauls.
- Knowledgeable in the supporting systems for gas turbine operations. NOx water system, fuel system, gas systems, oil systems to include the firefighting systems
- Familiar with GT installations and alignments
- Competent in rigging and all OSHA safety standards
- MS Office Suite Experience required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Physical RequirementsThe work environment is mostly indoors, in a clean, well-lighted and temperature-controlled office.Required to work near others, sharing an open office space.
