CLASSIFICATION TITLE:GROUNDSKEEPER IIFLSA STATUS:NON-EXEMPT

Pay:$18.80 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 6am- 2:30pm: some weekend work is required, as needed.

Note: the groundskeeper IIposition will include mowing, weed eating and trash pick up.

You will be placed on a 1 year probationary period starting your first day of hire.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled landscaping work. The Groundskeeper is responsible for managing the grounds and facilities and other activities associated with the General Public Usage. Duties and responsibilities include assisting extension agents develop and install demonstrations (turf, orchard, vineyard and gardens) using a variety of hand tools, maintaining grounds areas, operating/maintaining equipment, and performing related tasks. Reports to Ag Center Director.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Develops and maintains public relations with extension agents, sponsors, associations, community groups and others.

Possesses the ability to work alone as well as understand oral and written instructions.

Conducts “after use” inspections to ensure the facilities and/or grounds are left clean and undamaged following each scheduled use.

Set up arena(s), barns and grounds for upcoming event needs.

Maintain clean livestock areas.

Conducts periodic checks of facility and grounds area to include irrigation system, grounds maintenance and bush hogging.

Performs general work functions as assigned (e.g., cutting grass, trimming trees/brush, picking up litter and tires, installing hinges/door latches, spreading grass seed, painting cleaning etc.).

Performs basic building maintenance tasks inside and outside of facilities such as changing light bulbs, restocking kitchens, bathrooms, and janitorial closets with towels, trash bags, tissue paper, hand cleaner, or other duties as assigned by Ag. Center Director.

Performs various tasks associated with grounds maintenance or roadside maintenance, such as mowing grass/weeds, edging landscaped areas, cutting down and removing trees/shrubs, cutting tree limbs, trimming shrubs and hedges, removing debris from ditches and right-of-ways, picking up debris/litter, spreading ground materials, digging holes/trenches, shoveling materials, placing/retrieving signage, loading/unloading trucks, or lifting/moving heavy materials.

Provides training and instruction as needed related to demonstrations. Monitors status of work and assists in troubleshooting problem situations.

Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with projects and work activities, which may include a backhoe, tractor, skid steer, bucket truck, bush hog, 4-N-1, utility truck or other motor vehicles and arena maintenance preparation equipment, mower, weed eater, lawnmower, electric blower, hedge clippers, chain saw, skill saw, circular saw, drill, shovel, post hole digger, mechanic tools or carpentry tools or other equipment to help with assigned duties.

Inspects/tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations; makes adjustments, repairs or replacements as appropriate; reports problem situations.

Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, changing tires, tightening bolts, replacing parts, sharpening blades, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

Transports, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects; monitors status of materials under transport; retrieves any fallen debris.

Monitors inventory levels of department materials, tools, equipment, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.

Makes minor decisions in accordance with established procedures.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation, forwards as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Special carpentry and building projects by assignment.

Safety sensitive position subject to pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and random drug screens.

Additional Functions

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Performs other related duties as required.

High School education/GED supplemented by 3 years previous experience and/or training involving grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and maintenance work in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
