Grade 19 / Starting Annual Salary: $62,109.00. Rate of pay depends on qualifications.
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Graduate Engineer II is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, researching, implementing, designing, and the execution of engineering and construction projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS•Collects, analyzes, and interprets engineering, operations and maintenance data in order to develop engineering solutions and accurately define the scope of projects.
•Develops and reviews plans, specifications, maps, cost estimates, and permits in accordance with SAWS operational goals.
•May inspect construction activities and materials for compliance with governmental safety, approved plans, specifications, construction standards, permits, and enforces contractor and SAWS quality control plans.
•Assists in the development of the scope, schedules, and budgets of potential projects in accordance with SAWS operational goals.
•Monitors project budget, schedule, and quality.
•Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with other divisions, departments, consultants, contractors, inspectors, regulatory agencies, other governmental agencies and citizens for project coordination.
•Manages consultants and/or contractors; reviews invoices submitted by contractors and consultants for accuracy and compliance with contract documents.
•Assists in the completion of staff performance evaluations by providing information to the Manager or Director.
•Applies engineering principles, including water and wastewater engineering principles, construction practices, surveying, hydraulic modeling, and problem solving and effectively conveys findings through technical memorandums/reports and detailed maps.
•Applies city ordinances, state and federal regulations, SAWS specifications, and related standards.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING
•The Graduate Engineer II works under general supervision.
•May act as a team leader.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
•Two years' experience in engineering.
•Registration as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) in the State of Texas.
•Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
•Able to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Able to use computer assisted design drafting software, geographic information system (GIS) software, hydraulic modeling software, and project management software.
