About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Reporting to the Geology Manager, the Senior Mine Geologist – Open Pit will be responsible for fostering a positive safety culture while overseeing ore control drilling, database management, QAQC, and ore tracking. Duties include short- and medium-term drill planning, grade control model development, blast movement integration, dilution minimization, and production optimization. Accountable for geological mapping, resource model updates, and reconciliation of mining production to grade control models. Manage ore movement, production data validation, and coordination with other departments to optimize mine-to-mill grade. Additionally, oversee ARD model updates, metallurgical modeling support, personnel management, safety coordination, and training for the Mine Geology Department.
- Perform inspections, job and task observations to ensure compliance to safety standards.
- Supervise the work of the Open Pit Mine Geology Department.
- Training and mentoring of staff
- Oversee grade control drill planning and execution, ensuring assay information is available in advance of the scheduled mining faces.
- Provide stope reconciliations, dilution estimates, grade forecasting and grade blending.
- Develop geology mapping system to ensure that all relevant information is captured for future resource updates, and storage of relevant information in appropriate software system.
- Continuously develop systems to minimize dilution and loss of ore and optimize ore production.
- Drill contract management, and cost control.
- Responsible for all QAQC for drilling programs, production and reporting systems.
- Ensure that production forecasts are accurate, achievable, and in-line with company goals.
- All other tasks related to the operations of Island Gold Mine as required by the Geology Superintendent.
- B.Sc. in Geology
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a production setting of an open pit mine.
- Strong communication, computing, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Solid experience in geological, resource modelling, grade control and resource conversion.
- Drill program planning and implementation experience.
- Excellent computer skills with mining software Leapfrog/MineSight/Datamine.
- Can work autonomously on specific tasks to meet deadlines (desirable).
- Knowledge of OHS legislative requirements (desirable).
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
