Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
As a GIS Intern, you’ll work closely with our GIS specialists and engineers, supporting various initiatives. Your responsibilities may include:
Assisting with the collection, input, and maintenance of geospatial data for our gas, electric, and telecom networks.
Creating and updating maps, performing spatial analysis, and generating reports to support operational planning, maintenance, and expansion projects.
Gaining proficiency in industry-standard GIS software (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) and assisting with troubleshooting and user support.
Contributing to special GIS projects, which could involve anything from asset management mapping to network optimization studies.
Helping to document GIS processes, procedures, and metadata.
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Demonstrated coursework or foundational understanding of GIS principles and concepts.
Basic familiarity with GIS software (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, QGIS) is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eagerness to learn.
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
